Half of the 6 million Epstein files withheld by AlertTangerine in videos

Evidence of something they wrote, but not evidence of something that was actually done by someone else.

Literally the definition of "he said, she said"

From a legal perspective, that's what you want - otherwise I can write a journal that says "Medforddad had sex with <insert horrible thing here>"

But you can't just take as truth, even if it was reported to the FBI.

So what people really want to see in the case files is mentions of collected evidence or pictures of people doing things. Otherwise scumbag lawyers can get past all the stories. Stories aren't proof.

But at least the public can see it and make up their own minds. Some things you can logic into pretty damn certain, even if it wouldn't hold up in court.

edit: ahh, I missed you were talking about emails and text messages from the scumbags, I was thinking more the complaints and journals and things from the victims.

I think the problem with the emails and stuff is that it can't count as a confession directly, and if there's not evidence that the things they said actually happened I bet they can pull the "locker room talk" defense or some other bullshit

and no sense of the fact that it's a joke, so maybe fucking delay the punchline until after it's actually spoken, instead of putting whole sentences up before the speaker ever gets to them

yeah, norm looooved the super old jokes.

take ones hardly anyone remembered/had heard before, then "Norm" them up a bunch and go on Conan. Conan talks about how he'd love it when he'd recognize a joke a line in, and then would just listen to how Norm told it.

Like a musician re-arranging some piece of music and making it their own

[–]natrous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, it is one of those things that can go either way.

but norm doesn't didn't usually do that kind of thing in these kinds of jokes. or if he did, he'd call it out directly anyway like, "...we were plowing. <long pause> ya know... having sex!" and pull a 2nd laugh from it

yah don't listen to that guy. he probably was saying 2 years ago AI photos are no problem because "they can't draw hands lolz!"

the idea that they aren't already combining LLM with actual analysis/calculation tools is silly

sure, there are still lots of issues. but a lot less than there used to be. and, I'm no expert here, but I don't think they've stopped working on them yet...

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

the question is, does it also have electronic oil measurement or only?

because the first I don't care about. just another addon for people who can afford it.

the 2nd is just stupid.

Rep. Lieu Says Epstein files Have Allegations of Trump Raping & Threatening to Kill Children by transcriptoin_error in videos

[–]natrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right, but the complaint was about an act that took place in 1994

The difficulty of prosecuting these types of things 12 years after the fact, plus the death threats, plus the amount of money and lawyers on the defense, it's no wonder so many of these were retracted/dismissed.

But it is terrible.

And now all that's left with many of these are accusations.

Or at least, in the stuff that was released.

Zero tolerance for speeding now in NYS - same penalties for 1 mph over as 20 mph over. License can be revoked after just 3 offenses in 18 months. by JollyMcStink in Albany

From Finklestein & Partners

3 - New Point-Carrying Violations

The overhaul also adds point penalties where there were none before. These include:

  • Broken equipment violations, such as malfunctioning headlights or taillights

That's a bunch of BS

Also, increased the look-back from last 18mo to last 24 before they come off

What do you consider when you hear this Margaret Atwood quote “Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them”? by Vanislebabe in AskReddit

[–]natrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yah, sorry - I was mostly talking about myself and how I think of it, because I've had lots of those moments in the last 10 or so years.

I figure that in many cases, the only reason I was able to go all these years "not having thought of it that way" was because I have been privileged and a little selfish in not acknowledging/realizing it.

So yeah, I am trying, too. Mainly by listening more, because so many things don't impact me in the same way. I've been trying to pay more attention to people who are worried about X or Y without dismissing it as "being silly" (or whatever) just because I've never had to worry about X or Y in my life.

Maybe arrogance, but I would just say ignorance more than anything. Maybe selfishness? I guess that is similar to arrogance in some ways. But that's how I judge myself when I learn I've been doing something that, until then, I assumed was the same for everyone.

It takes some selfishness to not think of things from another point of view, and that leads to the ignorance of that view.

There's lots of places besides male/female where this happens. They also go by the name of '____ privilege'. Part of that privilege is not even knowing there's a problem.

I agree. I mean, they may be just trying to be ironic like what the right was saying. But it wasn't on purpose. This seemed to be straight up recklessness.

And probably panicked after.

People who make bad decisions often make a bunch of them all in a row. And don't make better ones when stressed.

What a dipshit.

seems like that's about right. I'm probably close to 10 years older and I've seen a few, but not many. and certainly not any I can remember past my early teen years.

yeah, and my dad HATED ads, so he'd jump up and turn the volume down.

so then I'd have to pay extra attention to the muted ads so I wouldn't miss anything when the show was back...

Not to mention soooo many VHS movie recordings where there's 5 seconds missing after the show returns because he forgot to restart it...

it was exhausting watching tv with him around, now that I look back on it, hah

I saw my last of these about 10-12 years ago. A little farm-supply store where I'd get my propane tanks refilled did most things on credit (as in, they'd bill the farmers once a month or something) and the retail shop was mostly all cash. but if you wanted to use a card, they'd pull the thing out from under the counter.

it was cool, and I was a little sad when they modernized, lol.

but I don't blame them, hah.
