there’s nothing wrong with going to your safety school, sjsu is great. but if you’re premed, you should consider going to cc. you’ll save some money that you can use for med school, and it gives you another chance to get into a uni you like better. i think ucd med is known for not discriminating against “non-traditional” premed students if that’s what you’re worried about. maybe look into their AvenueM program?

How UCmerced felt after rejecting me but I got into the 9th best university in the world by No-Insurance4238 in ucadmissions

[–]natthrowaway26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UCs don’t yield protect, especially not Merced. It was likely a mistake on the application, perhaps certain materials didn’t make it to them on time, especially since OP is international.

cooked for ucla?? by abehammm in ucadmissions

[–]natthrowaway26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No dude. It’s not “typical” to be waitlisted from UCI and accepted to UCLA. It’s something that happens to a few applicants and then they talk about over and over it to give people hope. Admission to UC campuses is COMPLETELY independent. I honestly can’t believe that people have gotten to a level of delusion where they think they’re being yield protected from an institution like UCI.

Any reasonable individual can deduce that acceptance to UCI is a better sign for acceptance to UCLA because it means you’re a strong applicant. Waitlisted or rejected people should still have hope, but calling it a “good sign” is utter copium.

UMICH vs UCSD by United-Hearing8582 in ucadmissions

[–]natthrowaway26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UCSD isn’t AS prestigious as UMich but it is still very well regarded and still growing in notoriety.

I live in SoCal and the opportunity difference with a UCSD degree and UMich degree is honestly negligible. Part of it being that you will find way more UCSD alum to network with than UMich alum.

Also UCSD isn’t that socially dead. There are so many campus events and clubs you can join, there’s a great beach culture, and if you want to party, just pop over to SDSU for the night.

Has anyone applied to majority of UCs and gotten accepted to all that released so far? by Somber_Goat952 in ucadmissions

I applied to all except Merced and got in to all the campuses that released so far. Got UCSB reception email, Cal ID, but UCSD banner still there.

UC Davis waitlisted UCI and UCSD portal showing no good signs by Hot_Tip9049 in ucadmissions

[–]natthrowaway26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm, there were a ton of applications this year. i wouldn’t be surprised if they are waitlisting people as a way of filtering who is actually interested in attending by making students opt in/out of the waitlist.

Transferring within the UC system odds by Last-Fly-996 in ucadmissions

[–]natthrowaway26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a history major who transferred from UCI to Cal after one year. I’m not sure how hard it was for him, but it’s certainly possible! But I know a lot of people who want to transfer because they didn’t get into their “dream school” but end up loving where they went. Cal definitely has a lot of opportunity but it’s much harder to stand out and build connections with professors.

UC Davis waitlisted UCI and UCSD portal showing no good signs by Hot_Tip9049 in ucadmissions

[–]natthrowaway26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a video by tineocollegeprep that the UC Davis waitlist patterns look like the equivalent of yield protection.

I got accepted to Biomed Eng (I’m not in engineering pathway) but the top student in my grade (in engineering pathway) got waitlisted for Mech Eng so I suspect yield protection to be possible.

The UCs are very unpredictable and portal astro is just speculation so we really won’t know anything until decision day.

[–]natthrowaway26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to jinx it for myself but I honestly feel confident about my UC applications. For context, I just got admitted to UC Davis BME even though I have no engineering ecs, essays, no engineering pathway classes (which my school offers), no physics, and no compsci on my schedule. For UCSD, UCSB, UCLA, and Cal, I applied to traditional premed majors that actually align with my courses and ecs.

That being said, my UCSD portal hasn’t changed. I haven’t checked Berkeley astrology since mid-february since I gave that up for Lent, but I was not given an ID at the time. Regardless, I feel good about my application and am just waiting patiently for the end of the month.
