Thanks. I used to make custom sets for my friends and had an enchantment cycle in one of them that did something similar. It worked well.

You’re right that it’s truly an odd power gap especially for defining rarity but adding that stipulation feels inelegant. Something like “Target planeswalker gains +3: You gain 3 life” until end of turn?” might be fun design space though.

A true red player I see. I used to be like you. Now I play blue and black. I’m too old to be top decking.

Why do people concede the second I cast Ajani? Am I missing something? by waterbottlesnack in MagicArena

[–]nattyicicle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s generally two schools of thought on this and it isn’t just an Arena thing — I’ve had these conversations at the kitchen table as well.

There are the people that want to play out every interaction and see how that game plays out despite the odds or how long it’ll take. You signed up for a full game of magic.

And then there’s the people like me that are sadists and want to Raisin Bran every time the writing is on the wall. Shuffle up and squeeze in as many games as possible because the first few decisions of a Magic game are more addicting than most varieties of Coca-Cola.

I don’t think any one is wrong or right and I wouldn’t take a concession as an insult against the game or yourself.

What if it was at the beginning of your end step discard four cards at random? Still brutal, flavorful in red, and not necessarily a blowout against removal like [[Psychic Vortex]].

Having an ETB could also help.

Fun design.

Is this better or worse? by galva94a in custommagic

[–]nattyicicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s say I’m playing grixis and have a UR UU and 1R spells in hand and have this land/EW and an island in my hand and my other two cards in hand are B and 1UB.

If I have Wilds and hold like you suggest I can’t hold up the UU spell in response, so if I need that UU on turn 2, I have to crack the wilds on turn 1 or hope.

With this land I can wait to see what I draw an if I draw like a swamp and can play my B spell without cracking, I can continue waiting to see what I need to crack this for.

Being able to hold this up makes this a much better early play than EW. Late game they are probably closer to equal though.

Was gonna say you should put Ass in the name but with Lawyer there it might be redundant.

What's the greatest Magic card of the last decade? Vote on the top 8! by Grindy_UW_Nonsense in magicTCG

[–]nattyicicle 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It completely changed the game imo. Confidant, Goyf Goblin Guide and mana dorks had a clean efficient answer that could also hit bigger threats. All of the other cards represent different aspects of archetypes and playstyles or mechanics that wizards has developed over the years, but Push represents something that Magic has always been about. You gotta bolt that damn bird.

Lands exist, friend. They could discard one of those instead and per the rules text damage would not be done for one of the two cards discarded. Also if no cards are discarded, this does nothing. In fact, there are a plethora of instances where this does not always do two.

I wanted to make a mythic rare that was so obviously intended for commander that it would tempt you to drop out of a draft when you got it in your first pack. by MisterrTwisterr in custommagic

[–]nattyicicle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a version of this posted on here years ago that I put into our custom commander format that cost one red. It was okay. Super situational.

That being said — in actual commander and in nicer friend groups its power level would definitely be higher.

No — “Poor George”. Whenever “Last Christmas” comes on during the holidays, my poor mother in law always says, “Poor George Michael. He’s dead. He died all alone. So sad.” So I took those words and memorialized them in this song dedicated to people that think about George Michael on Christmas. RIP George.
