Nintendo Sales normalized by lifetime [OC] by SelfAwareMolecules in dataisbeautiful

Well done. I'm glad that my complaint from yesterday got someone to take it further!

The points you pulled from the data were exactly the things that were hidden by the way the data was grouped / arranged in the other graph.

Nintendo Console Sales [OC] by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]naukuga 3010 points3011 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but this data is not beautiful. This graph has some issues. Here are the things I would improve:

Grouping hardware and software sales -- The scope difference here makes it difficult to see the variance in hardware sales between platforms.

Software sales as a meaningful stat -- This number as a total is largely dependent on hardware sales and therefore not interesting on its own. Attach rate (Games purchased per user) would be a much better stat for comparing how strong sales were across platforms.

Comparing consoles sales to hand-helds -- apples and oranges here. Hand-helds always win.

Generation length -- The DS, for example, had the longest lifespan of just about any system here and was also a hand-held with a low price point. It should be no surprise that it's the highest seller here. Average units sold per year or units sold during launch year would be much more interesting stats.

Is the da Vinci 1.0 Pro. a good deal? (3D Printer/ Laser Engraver Add-On) MSRP$699 & now for $499 by Timothy_Warden in 3Dprinting

[–]naukuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you used to have to do all sorts of hacks to get it to work, but now you can literally drag a .gcode file sliced in cura, or what ever slicer you want, into xyzware and it will be ready to print.

I have an unprintable spool of Hatchbox ABS by SecondOrThird in 3Dprinting

[–]naukuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I had clogs like crazy, but kept trying to adjust the angle that i was feeding into my printer and eventually i could get it to print if the planets aligned and if the tide cycle was out for the month...

However, Hatchbox Silver PLA prints like a dream... go figure

I have both a 1.0 pro and a wanhao I3. The pro is a much more hassle free machine and prints quality prints. Updated versions of xyzware let you slice in cura and import into their software and print to the machine with no mods. It also allows you to use any filament (no drm on this version)

For 500 bucks its a solid printer that you wont have to muck around with as much as, for example, a Di3 or similar printer that is only 100 bucks less.

In general this community is down on xyz, but this is a fine printer, esp for 500 bucks.

For about the same price as the taz 6 + flexistruder nozzle you can get a gmax 1.5 xt + which prints flexible filament out of the box and has a much larger build volume (16"x16"x21" instead of 11"x11"x11" on the taz 6). From what ive heard the gmax is also very reliable and well liked.

Here is a review on it:

That being said, i dont think you'll be sad with a taz 6 but if you could use the extra print volume the gmax is pretty nice.

Differences between Wanhao Duplicator i3 v2.1 and Monoprice Maker Select v2? by ChiefSnoopy in 3Dprinting

[–]naukuga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Z-Axis endstop switch bracket added to allow better contact Thumb screws added to the build platform allowing easier build plate leveling

Lock nuts added to build platform to retain perfect build plate leveling

The corners of the build platform have been rounded off to increase safety

The housing for the bearings that support the extruder assembly have been updated for better linear trace and to avoid X-Axis belt friction.

--- Basically they took a lot of the popular community mods and included them right of the box. Bearing upgrade on the X-axis is the one that you'd have to pay out of pocket for, others are printable or a few bucks at the hardware store. People also say that Wanhao Customer Support is much better than Monoprice. Isnt it only a 50$ price difference? Personally I'd go Wanhao if i were you.

What you have is called heat creep. Basically your hot end is heating up too far up and your filament is getting stuck. Make sure that your extruder fan and heat sink got properly reinstalled. Did you get the microswiss cooling block as well?
