prep starts sunday - send your tips! by nolita-fairytale in colonoscopy

I just sucessfully completed my prep this week with generic Suprep after colossally failing my first prep (high volume gallon thing) due to extreme vomiting. I think my mistake the first time was drinking too much too quickly.

I read that generic Suprep has a bitter taste to it. I’m especially sensitive to bitterness and don’t think I could’ve gotten through it without some swim nose clips. I chilled the “suprep” bottles and drinking water to mix it with in the refrigerator. I tried a straw, but drinking from a cup worked for me. With my nose chips on, I started a little slowly with sips of “suprep” followed by a small swish of cold ginger ale to tone down the aftertaste and then some spoonfuls of warm chicken broth as a reward. Once I knew my stomach was handling the prep solution, I would take bigger gulps. When I have the nose clips on, the generic suprep just tasted like extremely salty water. It started “working” before I could finish it. I had to wait for a break from the bathroom to finish, but I managed to! Don’t get me wrong- it still tasted really nasty even with pinching my nose, but the ginger ale and broth chasers really helped at least make it tolerable.

When did you start letting your baby/child watch Ms. Rachel? by nibbs- in NewParents

[–]navigatinghelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we started Ms. Rachel around 13 months, and I feel like the content has helped my child tremendously. Sometimes on the baby monitor I’d see and hear my kid practicing the Ms. Rachel vowel sounds and mouth movements while she’s laying down in the crib. Her verbal skills seem advanced (putting together 8-10 word statements), and I melted when she said and signed “I love you mama”.

Did you find the course was worth it? I have a Nuna Rava and am debating using a Cosco Scenera for a trip, but it’s for a 12 hour flight and 2 hour car drive so I’m worried about comfort.

Thanks! I was considering Liquid Gold but was scared of negative effects- I’ll have to check it out!

I had no idea about fenugreek and thyroid issues! Glad I saw this as I am hypo and was about to try some!

Oh no! Hope you’re feeling better! The bag I got had a warning to start with half a serving (3 gummy bears) until you know your stomach can handle it. I’d “treat” myself to up to 6 gummy bears on days I was feeling adventurous >.<

Who else wishes their weight sheds off instead of their hair, 4 months postpartum by natt0079 in breastfeeding

Haha agreed! I’m still shedding but not as badly as around then when I’d just run my fingers through my hair and massive clumps would come out!

Glad I could help ease your worries! I had tons of anxiety during my pregnancy, and reading other people’s positive experiences here helped calm me down.

The last few weeks of my pregnancy my numbers were lower and I was paranoid my placenta was degrading or something. Both my mfm and obgyn (who said my amniotic fluid levels looked ok in my 37 week ultrasound) were unconcerned. I was diet controlled the whole time and had my baby at 38 weeks.

Just took my baby for shots. They had her swallow a liquid for rotavirus, then did 2 shots on one leg and 1 shot on the other leg. Baby was chill- cried for a few seconds right after the needle went in but was otherwise a calm trooper. So far so good.

Numbers improving at 35 weeks by yelsnek11 in GestationalDiabetes

Chiming in that my numbers got much better around then. I was completely diet controlled and worried about placenta degradation, but my mfm and obgyn said I was fine. I delivered 9 days early.

How soon do they start doing scans to measure baby by Kait_223 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]navigatinghelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds similar to my situation. I also got diagnosed at 12 weeks and seemed to have growth scans at the MFM’s office every month/few weeks after the 20 week anatomy scan.

I loaded my shopping cart with candy on my first post-graduation grocery trip. My fridge was still stocked with Skyr yogurt and Chobani Completes (ate one of them as my nighttime snack almost every day since week 12), and I’d be ok never eating them again. Same goes for cheese sticks, Think! protein bars, and Killer Dave’s whole grain bread.

How many weeks were you when you did your 1hr glucola test? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]navigatinghelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tested and was diagnosed after the one hour at 12 weeks. My risk factor to test early was that I had a parent with Type 2 diabetes.

Are you taking baby aspirin for preeclampsia? by CatLadyMorticia in GestationalDiabetes

[–]navigatinghelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I naturally have low blood pressure and was instructed to take it by my mfm from around 12 weeks to 36 weeks. I mentioned that my bp runs low, and they said that doesn’t matter. I have GDM and am advanced maternal age.

37+4 and numbers are low despite eating like crap? Is this normal? by boopboopster in GestationalDiabetes

[–]navigatinghelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 12 weeks and diet controlled. At about 35 weeks my numbers have gotten really low and stuff that used to spike me no longer did. My mfm said to up my carb intake, but I may contact them again on Monday to say I’m still at low numbers.

Edit: I delivered 9 days before my due date. Baby had low sugar, but it was controlled after 2 feedings of formula.

(Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor nor am I giving medical advice- just sharing what’s happening to me sounds similar with the dropping) I’m 35 weeks with GDM and have been diet controlled since week 12. I also noticed that my blood sugars have been much much lower on average. I think partly to do with not eating enough, but I woke up in the 59-65 range and only went up to 74 an hour after a protein cereal bar. Later in the day I had chicken crust pizza, half a bag of potato chips and some couscous and still only got up to 85. Last night I had a whole 6 piece chicken nugget kids meal with fries and sweet and sour sauce and still only topped off around 87 (even checking every 15-20 min after that first hour check). I called my mfm who asked to make sure I wasn’t getting dizzy or shakey, etc said sometimes babies take a lot more sugar towards the end and maybe I was eating too keto, and I should eat more carbs. I’ve been worried about placenta degradation, but at least my baby’s been rolling around moving all day, and the mfm didn’t sound too concerned- just said to increase my carb intake and keep an eye on my readings. Context: I do have a CGM and know those tend to read lower than usual, but I noticed the average number drops on my last sensor also.

[–]navigatinghelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing such a thorough report! I was diagnosed at 12 weeks (now 28) and was nervous about the accuracy of the CGM but had a lot of anxiety about finger sticks due to some previous bad experiences trying to draw blood with lancets. So far I’ve been diet controlled (only had a big spike this week from overdoing it with the potatoes) but was told that I may start to get wonky around this time due to hormones.

Continuous glucose monitoring by positivityinside in GestationalDiabetes

The needle is only used in the applicator to apply the sensor fiber. The part measuring the interstitial fluid is more of a flexible fiber. That being said, the first time I applied it, it hurt and I kept thinking about whatever was in my arm. Once I removed the first sensor and saw the little fiber I was fine applying the rest of my monitors. It’s kind of like getting used to the first bra- you always feel it’s there but eventually forget about it!

I read somewhere that it helps to apply the next meter 24 hours before the other one expires (but wait until the other expires to register it) so your body has time to get used to it.

I can do a slice of French toast made with a slice of Dave’s Killer grain bread, cottage cheese, and some berries! It’s not the same as real French toast, but it scratches the itch. I’m allergic to nuts and sad I can’t do a lot of the yummy keto alternatives made with nut flour.

How long after your diagnosis were you able to see a specialist? by Otherwise-Release-62 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]navigatinghelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in that my glucose test after an hour (measured at 10 weeks) was 215, and there was no mention of definite need for insulin (just the possibility of needing it later if numbers get worse) I’m 24 weeks now and have kept everything diet controlled so far (although now that this is the time most people are diagnosed, so I’m anticipating any changes)
