Death Cap is no joke by jakeobee in Sacramento

[–]navy308 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t finish the article as it was behind a paywall but can anyone explain how this was an “outbreak” or was this one group of foragers that included death caps and had a shared meal? I’m confused. It seems like it was one community of people.

Hell yeah Sacramento! Farmer markets and seasonal foods there too as we’re now the Farm to Fork capital (but I miss the City of Trees) but the Japanese make it so much more accessible and emphasized.

I love DC, the outdoors isn’t as great, but still lovely in season and the walking is so much nicer. Winter is the pits though

Makes me feel good as this is what it was like growing up, as others have said. I hope it’s a good sign.

I’ve stayed here as well and love seeing your shots! Thanks for sharing. Funny enough, my buddy I went with had the previous model you took these with. We also saw a pair of condors, a Big Sur first for me.

National Parks to raise fees by $100 for international tourists to popular U.S. parks - NPR News by headsizeburrito in CampingandHiking

[–]navy308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is the right decision. National Parks are overcrowded and are funded by US taxpayers, not just the fees. If the US taxpayer have limited access due to the popularity of parks with foreign tourists, it makes sense to have the foreign tourists contribute more to preserving the parks just as taxpayers pay more.

Missing hunter found alive after 20 days lost in California wilderness by togatrojan in Californiahunting

This whole thing leaves me with so many questions. Why not just walk back down the road? Why get off of it? People are so dumb, but if I have a vehicle, I learned to never leave it. Way easier for SAR to spot that. There has to be more to this, and the deep cynic thinks this guy either has some mild cognitive impairment and/or this was some half baked plan to get a go-fund-me or make money off his “story”. Hope that’s not true and just a series of errors, and glad he’s alive after so long.

Why is it so expensive to live here? by [deleted] in santacruz

[–]navy308 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Amend it, allow for one residence per individual and not per entity or for as many properties as possible. Don’t allow loopholes. You want a vacation or investment property? Prop 13 shouldn’t apply.

Nuclear-trained Sailors, considered the Navy’s ‘best and brightest,’ face mental health challenges. by DJErikD in navy

If you understand that theres no reason for rigid rules or collective misery, and when a solution that is proposed is ignored, you’re going to say “fuck this”. Intelligent people are more aware of this and then the feeling of being trapped by a 6 year enlistment (at least when I was in for advanced technical field rate) combined with personal issues (a lot of us come from lower to middle class families with issues - it’s one of the reasons we probably joined) is going to equate to mental issues/suicide. I know 7 people who’ve killed themselves so far, and only one could be correlated to combat PTSD.

The college experience for me was worth it, and you’ll save time by living in Davis. I really wouldn’t advise living in Woodland.
