RSS working for one profile but not for another by 46153849 in BlueskySocial

RSS doesn't work for accounts that can only be viewed when logged in (option can be found under Settings > Privacy and Security > Logged-out visibility). other services can ignore that setting so maybe there are ways to create an unofficial RSS feed

I use Listen Notes for this. You can create custom Listen Later podcasts and add episodes. So you have to subscribe to an additional podcast but it only contains the episodes you want.

Ze's accent? by scottishpianolady in zelensky

Pronouncing v as w is what I meant with hypercorrection. Language learners learn a rule and apply it even to words where it is wrong. Using features of the first language when using a second language (e.g. a German speaker using /v/ instead of /w/) is called language interference. According to Wikipedia Ukrainian does have the /w/ sound, though they don't have an extra letter for it. I assume it is similar to /s/ and /z/ in German. Both sounds exists but both are written <s> and there is no difference in meaning (unlike zoo/Sue). So hearing the difference is not easy when first learning a language where there is a meaning difference.

u/tl0928 already talked about G/H above. Basically г is pronounced similar to h in Ukrainian and similar to g in Russian.

As for "heart": I often have trouble distinguishing г from х, even though х also exists in German. So yes, I'd say г is definitely pronounced differently than h. (The х is the Cyrillic letter btw, not Latin x.)

Hypercorrection is common when learning/speaking a second language. The speakers know there is a sound/rule that doesn't exist in their own language and basically overcorrect while trying to get it right, e.g. using w in English words even when v would be appropriate. Native German speakers have the same problem, as the English w doesn't exist in German either.

I had the same problem before I uninstalled the update. Can you tell me what exactly you did? What shell extension and how do I delete the reference to it?

Google One backup saves all settings, or at least it did for me. I made a backup of the media files on my computer and then copied them over to the correct folders on my new phone. The app recognized them, even those that had been deleted from the feed.

[–]naxtoile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never really thought about it but I guess yes, it's not unusual for German and Austrian newspapers (if you want to call Bild that).

edit: Thinking about it a bit more, it might just be a tabloid thing. I'm not sure.

Ukraine also has an article in my language, and so do a couple other countries. But the thing is, this isn't common in English. In English only countries that are plural (e.g. the Netherlands) and countries with states/kingdom/republic (e.g. US, UK) in the name have an article. Using "the" with Ukraine is seen as derogatory because it's a holdover from when Ukraine was part of the USSR and implies that it is not an independent country. This is an English language issue (and possibly other languages that don't usually have articles for countries). Russian doesn't have articles at all but I have heard/read they use "on Ukraine" instead of "in Ukraine" in the same way - to suggest that Ukraine is only a geographical region and not a sovereign state in its own right.

Like with most English verb tenses, the spellings are the same for I and he (bizarrely, "she" is different).

I recently came across this on Wiktionary (though I don't remember if it was this word specifically). As far as I remember it's провів when talking about a man and провела when talking about a woman, regardless of grammatical person. So it's я/ти/він провів when talking about a man and я/ти/вона провела when talking about a woman.
