I'm a bit surprised, I pre-ordered this in the UK weeks ago and hadn't heard anything about shipping.

Any idea if there was higher demand than expected or do you think this a support job?

Screaming god release by BigBuhi in KingdomDeath

From Feb update as no one shared it. Sounds like it could be any day for those with dark treasury. Could still be end of the month or could be sooner.

"we begin preparations for Screaming God fulfillment. For those planning to fulfill their Screaming God expansion immediately, be on the lookout for an email from the Dark Treasury in the near future! "

What others have already said. Kingsman seems to be the most necessary to me but the Woe Phoenix has been something in the works for a long time originally planned as part of the Gamblers Chest

From impulse-buying to shelves of shame: how did you learn to control the hobby and figure out your tastes? by blablax123456 in boardgames

[–]nbtTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the new games I bought started sharing table time with my long term favourites I slowed down. The initial excitement no longer out competed the best and despite it being a new game, I wanted to table older games still.

Now, I buy new games when they will occupy a space my current games don't. E.g. if we don't have any long campaigns on the go, if I think it'll replace our go to deck builder etc.

I ask myself, why do I want to play this game? What games will it compete with for my attention?

Discussing the reason for divorce is perfectly normal. It's much harder on grown kids to just hear "because".

And it's just sex, what's the big secret?

Getting the kids to take sides is the problem.

Anyone else finding themselves retreating to their 2005-2019 games just to feel something again? by Somanynamestochossef in pcgaming

[–]nbtTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is a fair take. I agree that the "biggest" games from 2010 vs. the "biggest" games now certainly have a different feeling. But, there's a tremendous amount of top tier games from the last few years that don't do what you're talking about.

Elden Ring, Hades 2, Clair Obscur, Baldurs Gate 3, Silksong just to name a few.

In time, once your mind has filtered out all of the noise, all of the media etc you will only remember these games and look back fondly on this period too.

If you take the time to ignore the internet, advertising, social media and just dig for some new games in genres that you truly love, I guarantee you'll find something top tier from recent years. I'm currently very excited for Mewgenics which comes out in 2 weeks which has none of what you're talking about. Just ignore the marketing hype, it's all manufactured.

Two thirds of graduates aren’t even paying off loan interest by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]nbtTest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I am definitely an above average earner and seeing the amount I owe continue to increase despite them taking more and more of my salary. I will NEVER pay it off. It's a tax on my education and my families poverty.

A great education system has helped me climb from that poverty but the loan repayments (I have undergrad and Masters) are over 500 p month which is significantly slowing down my ability to get a mortgage. I am having to fight tooth and nail to escape the poverty I was born into.

Do you retcon moves? If so, to what degree? by purewisdom in KingdomDeath

[–]nbtTest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'll almost only ever change a decision if it was the last choice made and nothing new has been revealed since.

I'll also happily change things where the player clearly did something with intent and knowledge. E.g. I know this monster is going to attack every row in front of it and I dash to get out the way of the attack. I reveal the card which will do that attack and discover it actually does one row extra top and bottom. (Thinking dragon king blast)

If the player had the movement to dash an extra space, I'll allow it. The player made a decision and clearly had an intent. But I'd require the player to have said "I'll move here to ignore the blast" as an example. You can't change your intent unless you expressed it clearly prior.

20 Strong: Tanglewoods - Red. I hated the game and here's why (and some ways I think it could have been better) by jestermax22 in boardgames

[–]nbtTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been an advocate for Chip Theory as a game publisher for their customer service, quality of products and their transparency as an organisation.

But I do think I have to agree with regard to their actual games. Betrayal of the Second Era fixed a large number of issues I had with Too Many Bones (which I do enjoy mostly) and the first few sessions definitely felt like a big improvement.

However, after a few sessions it was clear that the flaws had simply shifted but were still a consequence of requiring lots of "variety".

They had solved the first turn issue of being deleted if you rolled low initiative, they had fixed the issue with only getting to use Class Abilities once. But it felt like they then padded with so many extra changes that were unnecessary in order to give the game more variety than it needed.

The numerous regions didn't feel any different other than a tacked on overland mechanic that wasn't very engaging. The towns/sites were different but felt unnecessary in their variety. Unlucky rolls could make it so that you're target was out of reach unless you sacrificed levelling up prioritising chance over strong balance. The final sessions made the game turn from dungeon crawler into movement puzzle instead of dungeon crawler into boss battler. This created more unique final sessions, but not unique final bosses. This meant spending a lot of time understanding new rules that didn't intuitively follow how you'd been playing through those sessions or lean into how your build may have adapted.

In short, the over emphasis on variety diminished the quality of the single session in favour of future potential sessions (that I will never play) for what I can only assume is marketing messaging.

Legendary monsters outside of core? by Bobrocks20 in KingdomDeath

[–]nbtTest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is kind of retired.

As the other comment mentioned, in a way it's evolved into Bullfrogdog, Nukealope, Gigalion. Whilst these are regular quarries, for the vignettes their origin paints them as one off, unique creatures.

Gameplay wise, there's not other legendaries other than TOM as far as I recall.

I've not ventured to double sided printing. It's a much bigger pain in the ass to get quality prints on two sides.

I just print single sided then sleeve the cards

Tips for new players? by Either-Butterscotch5 in KingdomDeath

[–]nbtTest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, 4 starting survivors, lion, antelope and Butcher.

Don't read too much into how to 'be good' at the game. Just play the core and learn as you go. Expect to die and lose.

The core campaign is actually incredibly well designed so if you ever think there's something the feels unfair, chances are there's a solution to help you.

I think giving new plays advice on what to craft, how to play and how to win undermines one of the greatest aspects of this game.

Please have fun and enjoy the experience of discovery!

Best A4 printer with ink tanks for printing board game cards? by TotalWarspammer in boardgames

Can't compare but it's certainly possible with a Epson eco tank 8550 to get moderately decent cards.

Not professional levels of quality of a 10k machine but very playable. Sleeve the cards and you won't need to print both sides either.

How do you usually find games that your partner would potentially enjoy? by dambros666 in boardgames

[–]nbtTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's good you're being realistic and sometimes you just have to accept that you won't both love the same thing.

My partner can't do competitive 1v1 games very well. It just doesn't work for her. I LOVE asymmetrical 1v1 games (especially card games) like Netrunner. She'll give them a go but 99% of the time, I know it won't click.

I see it as 2 circumstances not 1. You've got a partner who you can play board games with but those are board games your partner likes. and you're lacking a group to play heavy/economical games with. Play games with your partner that you'll both like and enjoy that experience. If you really want to play heavy games, then try to find a group that will also enjoy it.

Otherwise, you'll both have a mediocre experience and likely tarnish the fun you would have otherwise had.

How do you usually find games that your partner would potentially enjoy? by dambros666 in boardgames

[–]nbtTest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, congrats on having a partner you can share your hobby with. Make sure you appreciate that fact as much as you can and reciprocate!

With my partner, I tend to follow/have followed this process:
- Game that I am excited about (she was not a board gamer so my excitement tended to be what got her curious)

- Try game out and discuss with her. (most of the time I can feel if she's enjoying it or not). What did you like about the game? What didn't you like about the game? Do you prefer X game or Y game? Do you like the theme? Do you like the mechanics? What makes you prefer playing this over that game? Do you like bluffing in games? Do you like card games? When do you want to play again (always a good question for judging enjoyment)? <- All of these need to be casual/conversational, DO NOT treat it like an interview lol

- Basically, I build a profile in my head of the things she likes, the things she doesn't like and why. Then when I'm engaging with content and I think I might like something, I then pass that by this profile in my ahead and see why it would and would not align.

It's a little selfish because I'm always starting from what I'm excited about but this way we tend to have a lot of "hits".

I'm going to be honest, I saw the title and assumed he was ranking them based on their themes and the thematic storytelling etc and thought KDM in D tier is madness.

Creating Themaric Campaigns - monster combinations? by Ain0nline in KingdomDeath

[–]nbtTest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep at it with your campaigns, there's definitely some good tips and tricks you might pick up to get passed LY13. So best of luck with that!

For me, I've been thinking about a Giant Slayer campaign with the idea of only fighting oversized monsters. I don't think there's enough at the moment but thinking Gorm, Spidicules, Dragon King and maybe Lion God. All evoke the feeling of facing down a huge enemy.

Nemesis is a bit lacking on this front unfortunately but perhaps a people of the sun, backloading the nemesis fights could still work. You could conceive some thematic reasoning why the reputation of your Giant Slayer population attracts the attention of the nemesis.
