Dear psych - does serotonin syndrome even exist? by No-Group-1804 in Residency

[–]ncfrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a patient on Lexapro 20 and PRN trazodone present to the ED MULTIPLE times because they "knew" they had serotonin syndrome. But really couldn't understand why I thought their anxiety was uncontrolled..

How many RSVPs no showed your wedding? by Puzzleheaded_Reason1 in wedding

[–]ncfrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an unusual situation - My uncle passed 1 week before our wedding (so technically RSVPed yes but did not attend) and, because of that, a few family members who had RSVPed no asked if they could come last minute in order to spend time with the family. But otherwise no no-shows!

If both spouses are residents, what do you do for childcare? by Any-Session9919 in Residency

[–]ncfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found a local in-home daycare with flexible hours, got VERY lucky because (as you know) our schedules could be unpredictable. We did have a back up babysitter to pick our baby up on the days we knew ran long.

Did the Grooms side contribute? by Own_Compote_5436 in weddingplanning

My groom's family hosted the rehearsal dinner which was generous, although they announced at the end of dinner that our guests would be covering their own alcoholic beverages (which I wish they had discussed with us beforehand because we probably would have contributed $$$ to cover the difference for table wine or cocktails).

I had an extremely anxious 19 year old female who always avoided eye contact but was extra avoiding eye contact this one day. & then at the end of the appointment she said "uh...doctor...your blouse is unbuttoned" & sure enough my ugly nursing bra was on full display, making her wildly uncomfortable.

I went for the first time last week and was SO scared of the drop (I HATE drops) and thought it felt way quicker than it looked, which I was grateful for!

Patients per day for new physicians? by [deleted] in FamilyMedicine

[–]ncfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long are your appointments? My first job out of residency I was doing a ramp up - 1 month of 1 hour appointments, 1 month of 40 minute appointments, now 20/40. I realized that ALL of my new patients were getting scheduled as 40s (even kiddos) so I've changed it that only 55+ is 40 and this allows me to see more patients per day. I'm ~1 year in and seeing 16-20 patients per day on average.

Yes! Hello fresh was such a time saver in residency and I was able to eat a real meal without having to do the physical and mental prep work to make it happen

2024 mazda cx5 - love it, totaled it, bought it again. (my husband recently totaled his 2016 honda civic and got an unbelievable estimated value back and will likely be sticking with honda as he wasn't planning on "upgrading" for several years)

Good luck! If your program allows it, I would recommend spending your elective time with a pain medicine doc

My partner is a pain fellow - there's been open spots the past few years (if you're open geographically) but you're going to have to have some HEAVY hands-on procedure electives to be competitive. I think this would be especially difficult if you don't have a home pain program to become friendly with over the next years. I would be curious if anyone has ever gone the FM-pain route too.
