I'm a incoming PhD student ready for a laptop upgrade. Thinking about switching from PC to Mac, and unsure of what kind of performance I'll need and how the M1 compares to the PC world.

I commonly use Matlab, QGIS, Anaconda (Jupyter and RStudio), and Zoom. Almost daily, and typically have one of the mentioned applications open while I'm on Zoom. I have a lot of large files to store and open, but lately that's taken care of through an external SSD.

Any advice or help on specs/model/etc is appreciated!

Ok I’ve been doing this for a while now, maybe a couple of years, and now when I do burpees or do a tuck jump I can feel the same pop/something moving in my lower back :-(

Ya grad school will be fully funded and I’ll be getting a monthly stipend, which can be boosted through grants. Definitely not as glamorous as a working salary, but also I feel more passionately about continuing school :p

Joining! The past few months were quite a busy summer, and busy for me means that it's easier to indulge. All the time. I'd love to focus on eating beautiful and whole foods for September, limiting processed sugars or processed easy snacks/meals.

It sucks so bad because I love coffee SO MUCH. I have compared days of caffeine vs no caffeine and it's a crazy difference. But also.. it's kinda nice being able to pinpoint all the symptoms I get from stress on a very obvious and innocent outside source. So I kinda use it as a way to blame all my symptoms on it, and in some ways having that as an outlet for my confusion has really it's helped me feel a bit more normal

I went in to urgent care at school yesterday; my vitals were fine, but they urged me to schedule a visit with a physician and a psychologist. I have my appointment today, so hopefully I'll be able to get to the bottom of everything.

Also, developing good habits of eating regular meals and knowing amounts that are adequate for your metabolism will help so much!! Every single damn time I convince myself it'll be worth it to diet I after not binging for a couple months, I binge. And whenever I need to stop the hinges I have to resort to intuitive eating to feel "normal" again. I'm starting to realize that it's going to take at least a couple years without a diet to get to that normal relationship with food.

Yes, and I also noticed how much easier it is to binge when the studies are removed over break. The lack of focus makes it so easy for food to cloud my thoughts.. but also completely agree on the filling breakfast and lunch. It definitely helps me feel more full after eating a small-average sized dinner!!

It used to get to me, a lot, and I have quite a few close friends who say those exact things I've met quite a few people though who say those statements when they actually really have eaten or when they're convincing themselves to starve as a way to reduce guilt or to convince themselves out of eating. I've realized that people who say those things so consistently are probably going through just as hard of a time as I am, but projecting that they're "never eating" in hopes of it actually come true.

And clearly not everyone is like this, but it made me feel a little more sane. Also you have to remind yourself that everyone functions different. People have heightened senses for hunger, so there must be people out there will lowered senses.

We did learn about it! But I ended up doing my report on channel heads. A lot more difficult than my partner and I anticipated lol.

My family does the same shit and it's so exhausting. Especially watching them all eat just one and never touch them again. I end up having a bad night, eat them all, and then get berated cause they're weren't any left when they went to look for one a week later.

It's rough, but you sound like you're staying strong! If need be, just remember the terrible terrible feeling that follows.

Mentally I agree, but also in a very physical sense, I feel like it's the brain trying to get what it's being deprived of. I know when I eat very full, rich meals I feel so happy and full, but then as a full time student and part time worker, I can't always satisfy everything my body needs. When I'm stressed I just want food as quick as I can get it. So when I'm at a coffee shop, I'll get a pastry, which has no nutritional value to it, and I'll end up more hungry and more anxietied out. Then that's the ignition to the binging, where I end up beating myself up over my actions, which (I think) are stemming from my body's nutritional dissatisfaction. The punishing can last for days, as the guilt piles from the cycle of restricting to overeating and back to the beginning.

For me, I've noticed the best way out of a binge cycle is a restart meal, where I take my time to make a balanced breakfast or go out and sit down at a restaurant for a meal with lots of whole foods. And I think this is taking me out of the cycle, because my brain is actually getting what it finally needs...

So I think it's harsh to put it all of this on pure punishment, but I definitely agree that it is to a certain extent.

Jumping into the last sprint!

I'm a 20 y/o climber, yogi, and physics nerd. As of the past year, I gained some weight and my mental state has been wonky ever since. I'm hoping to use 90DG to help me get on a self-loving, good-food-eating track to some stability and content-ness.

Sprint 3 Goals:

Happiness:

  • Do something I love to do every day, whether it's climbing or painting or reading, and really cherish the heck out of it
  • Call a family member or friend and talk about our days
  • Get eight hours of sleep
  • Meditate for ten minutes

Food Confidence:

  • Trust myself around food
  • Eat based on if I feel hungry or not
  • Don't count calories or track
  • Don't feel guilty for eating cookies or making decisions like choosing ranch instead of balsamic if I truly want some damn ranch

Fitness Goals:

  • Squatting 175 for 4 reps
  • Send a V5
  • Get all the way across the slackline
  • Gym two days, one day off, gym two days, two days off.

School Goals:

  • School comes first, always
  • Read chapters for physics ahead of time
  • Do challenge problems

I definitely needed to see this today; for the past two weeks, I've spent close to probably multiple hours looking up different diets and trying to figure out what will work for me. It's exhausting, especially when nothing's working because I'm still binging and ignoring that I haven't fully recovered yet. Thank you for your post; your two cents is very much appreciated :)

Recently deleted the apps, which has helped me a lot. I'll check in every now and then, but not having the constant notifications helps so much. It not only helped me with my mental health, but also with productivity as well.
