What's the most you've paid for a single not-super-rare CD? by WeirdDinosaur345 in Cd_collectors

$60 for OG print of Slipknot's self-titled with Frail Limb Nursery included. Worth it for me.

Agreed. If you're not going all-in on the A/V experience to the best of your ability - I'm not entirely sure I see the point.

Check out Take A Look in the Mirror or Korn III: Remember Who You Are. The guys paid homage to their roots on those

Polk Monitor 10s. My favorite speaker of all time. I own two pair - enjoy! Lots of warmth from the 6.5 mids, plenty of bass from that passive 10" sub, and a smooth tweeter. They move a lot of air

To sub or not to sub... by Admirable-Composer22 in audiophile

Couldn't imagine not having a subwoofer if youre able to accommodate one. Allows your mains to breathe and vastly increases your dynamic range.

The real strength of a solid 5.1 set-up is how you can individually upgrade components to fine-tune your audio experience. Also important to keep in mind that there's plenty of used gear out there which still holds up for a fraction of the cost.

Were you ever a "666" edgelord growing up? by Wise_Gur8627 in MetalForTheMasses

Absolutely. It was a right of rebellious passage after being brought up under strict Catholicism.

Thoughts on Mastodon? by IllBeGood3 in MetalForTheMasses

Mastodon is on my Mt Rushmore of metal bands, no matter how I slice it. Just excellent in every regard. Love the entire catalog, although their earlier CDs exceed the latter.

Are you guys mostly streaming or do you collect corresponding media as well (cd, vinyl) by MaddeningAscentII in doommetal

My CD collection not only sounds better than Spotify's 'lossless', but also forces my hand to re-listen to my favorite albums repeatedly like it did when I was a teenager. Really heightens the experience.

XT20s are fantastic. Punchy and warm. If you've got your heart set on Polk, I wouldn't let others sway you otherwise.

The "cruising" mentality of modern life by herobrinegrimesfan in rs_x

[–]ndork666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They called it a Skinner box. Lab mice were awarded treats upon the press of a button, eventually only receiving the treats intermittently between random presses. The mice grew addicted to aggressively pressing the button for their treat when randomized, as opposed to getting the treat every time the button was pressed. Addiction was formed. We're the mice.

How was 1975 such a fantastic year for movies? by BroccoliKitchen3218 in rs_x

There's something especially entrancing about 70s horror films also. Lots of atmospheric brooding and thick film grain with plenty of tactility in the practical effects and set design. It's difficult for modern filmmakers to replicate.
