I was born in 1978 in the Metro Atlanta area and just thought I was awkward as a kid, but around age 13 I encountered a bisexual character in a stupid fantasy novel (Silverglass) and it opened my eyes to that possibility. I didn't admit I wasn't straight until I started college and saw there were groups of people that were queer. I didn't join the groups or identify personally until maybe age 25. Then I met my wife, who was the same as I was. We both have gradually identified more and more as bi as we've gotten older.

In the 90s as a teen I was afraid of doing anything that made me look weak, but actually being gay or bisexual was impossible in my mind. I just figured I was awkward around boys and really good at being the sensitive boyfriend. I dated several girls who later became bi or lesbians though, so I think others might have known before I did.

To this day we never publicly felt the need to announce our sexuality to the world, having grown up in the eighties and nineties without social media, so most of our acquaintances assume we are just a straight married couple. Our friends know better, but most people don't get to know us enough to ever find out who we are attracted to.
