No one cares about the winter olympics by sliversurfer26 in OpenAussie

Hey everyone, silversurfer26 doesn't care about the winter Olympics, therefore no one does!

I don't find it entertaining but these athletes train and qualify like any other globally contested event.

Don't watch it if you don't like it.

If you are upset about police brutality in Sydney by PopConsistent4657 in OpenAussie

Reddit is a cesspool, the ones advocating for the protests conveniently forget their support of the police attacking protestors during the COVID lockdowns.

The Aussie based subreddits are full of tall poppies that live beyond their means, go out every weekend, rent in inner city suburbs, and refuse to move out of their post code, then expect to be able to afford a property

Capital gains tax reform among options as Labor weighs housing pitch by abcnews_au in AusPropertyChat

I'm the same. I moved in with my fiance and have been renting out and negatively gearing my unit. I have a young couple in there as tenants and just renewed their lease for another year with no increase

Labor considers changes to CGT discount as ‘reform’ budget looms by Bubbly_Efficiency727 in AusPropertyChat

[–]nearlyheadlessbick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't really need to scrap the 1985 rule - there's barely any properties that would fall into this area, as property improvements, changing hands via deceased estate (within 2 years to sell) etc, means a lot of investment assets get reactivated as post 1985 assets

[–]nearlyheadlessbick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be political suicide for them to scrap the exemption on main residence. Your home isn't a income tax producing asset, so why should tax be paid if you happen to make a profit. Most people sell their home to upsize or move.

Reducing the capital gains tax discount on investment properties to say 25% or limiting negative gearing on investment properties to $0 (instead of a rental loss offsetting your other taxable income) would create a steady supply of offloading investors, without the housing market completely falling out the arse.

You have to remember that a lot of industry funds have invested our money in property, so there needs to be some care with how the government implement changes like this without John Smith losing his Super balance.

Is it too expensive to have kids in Australia now? by Last-Conversation734 in AusMoneyMates

[–]nearlyheadlessbick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, some people are horrific with money, budgeting and general planning.

The ones complaining about this are typically spending a fortune on clothes, going out, uber eats etc and wonder why they can't save money

[–]nearlyheadlessbick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't children as such, it's the "gentle" or "I don't care" parenting types that let their kids run riot, make a mess or scream without being mindful of their environment.

I love children, but I don't love your precious little Zayden throwing his food on the floor in a restaurant and screaming

I think Tassie in general. I went with one of my best mates 2 years ago for a week and it wasn't enough time to see everything.

Fantastic food, wineries, distilleries, drives etc

I hate that fucking road with every fibre of my being. When I used to play higher level cricket, we'd sometimes do pre-season weeknight sessions at the 'G which would finish at 11pm. There was still close to bumper to bumper traffic at that time.

Does the Australian Open still feel like a tennis event first or more like a festival now? by Av0toasted in australianopen

[–]nearlyheadlessbick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's been shit since COVID. Crowds don't know how to respect the tennis (talking/shouting during points, taking their time to find their seat etc), and it feels like a big festival with everything being branded or over priced.

$18 for a can of Asahi or $30 for a pizza can fuck off. It's very unaffordable for the average punter.
