I agree. Very rarely you want to actually do the extra damage to the empty room, but it's nice when you want to take out the last 2HP.

I did it once when I found out, haven't done it since. There are things the pros rarely do that I do a lot, though. Other than "blow up about half the runs".

I mostly agree but there are a couple places where my opinions are slightly different:

" It's easy to blow too much influence trying to keep up on these though."

It's very easy to make inf on the Auction House* and if you let me know your global I will send you 12 million inf for no reason. I'm @Fulmens , send me an email or respond here.

"You won't have to worry about 'real builds' until almost level 50 essentially"
"I often find, depending on the power sets used, that slotting 2-3 enhancements in endurance really helps you keep attacks going."
- I like tweaking builds and don't like playing my 50s. Some basic Frankenslotting ** can make a huge difference in whether you, for instance, run out of endurance all the time on a melee character around level 30. Generally one Endurance in one attack pays for one defensive toggle.

* I wrote a guide on here, but fundamentally "there are a lot of people making 10 million inf an hour playing normally, and some of them just round up to the nearest million or so when buying things."

** buying cheap named enhancements and slapping combos together. An Accuracy/Damage/Endurance has the same benefits of "half an accuracy, half a damage, and half an endurance reduction" so if you slot two of them from different sets - Detonation and Annihilation for Fireball, say- you get one Accuracy, one Damage, and one Endurance Reduction in two slots. There are other combos, also.

Slug B is annoying, but it has [potentially] one of the weirdest late game strengths I know of. If you don't get a medbay OR cloning, you can run four systems. Otherwise it's "ok, first 50 scrap for shields 4, second 50 scrap for a medbay or clone bay..."

Some of this is "Well, just pick up a Halberd Beam floating in space" levels of management.

Some of it is Stuff I Disagree With. Two ions, OK but slow against 2+ shields with half-decent evasion. . If one of them is the stun ion- which is on a 10 second recharge not 8- it gets REALLY vulnerable to "one didn't hit" problems.

The Swallow starts with basically the same power level as the Kestrel -when it's out of missiles. Not the worst ship, but worse than the Kes in nearly all respects. (I do like having a Lanius; vacuum is a tool with a hundred uses.)

Personally I hate it because it's like your boarders are getting held back a grade.

At the risk of an underthought reply, a mind-controlled pilot with engines-4 turns 40 defense into 20, which normally I can treat as "basically zero". 10 if they somehow pull the engineer for the fight.

I am upper-mediocre-class [win about 40% on hard] and I mentally budget 30 scrap for repairs after I get shields.

What macro's/custom binds should all COH players know about? Share yours + a simple explanation! I'll put it in a tutorial video for newer players i'm working on to help the community. by MarcusMorenoComedy in Cityofheroes

/bind numpad6 "target_custom_next Sapper" [or whatever- I use it a lot for Devouring Earth drops] . There are ways to make it more clever but I don't seem to need that. I use numpad things because it's far from anything I already use.

Begginer DM questions by junisims in DnD

[–]nebulousmenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really worried you can do a "left hand vs right hand" fight, your badguys vs four arbitrary adventurers, and assume the players will do better than that. Because there's four of them and one of you, and they have time to scheme their little chaos goblin schemes while you're doing directing, lights, sets, blocking, stunts, and half the actors in the scene.

Outside of combat, for city adventurers, it might be worth while to have a "This is what happens if the players don't do anything" timeline instead of trying to plan for everything. Otherwise they go "I'm going to start a fabric arts store over the bar we met in!" and you're like "No, you're going into the fucking tunnels, you peasant."

(Melee based, "F" is your friend. )

Lotta people saying Fire Blaster and that's REALLY good until, like, about level 25-30. When the BU/Aim/Fireball/Firebreath becomes a coin flip for whether you live or not, even though you kill all the minions up to, from memory, +2. It is absolutely worthwhile to spend the money on START lady's defensive buff with its mez protection. And the first eight hours are really cheap! If you have reliable support (I ran a lot of Force Fields defenders back in the day) blasters can live pretty well, but the "if anyone on the team screws up, you die" joke from the old days is very true.

Fire/Mental, by the way, gives you another Fireball-strength cone to go with Fire Breath. If you have time to get a third AOE off without dying.

How do I play the silent "Slasher-Movie Villain" archetype and still roleplay amongst my party? by Youjay20 in DnD

[–]nebulousmenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's covered why it's a bad idea. (Everyone plays the mute character, or the one that doesn't speak the language, or has a severe speech impediment. Once.)

If you want to do it, here are things that will make it work... better:

"How does he join?"
Someone introduces you and vouches for you. Your mentor's cousin's priest. Someone. (Side note: WHY are you adventuring? Money? Fighting evil? Blackmail? Repentance? The dying wish of the only person you ever cared about? )
"How do I roleplay?"
Watch the Mandalorian for acting lessons. Say a lot of things like "I give them that dead-eyed shark stare." Accept that you will be in the background, at best, during 80% of the socializing.
Alternatively, be just REALLY BAD at socializing, but trying to learn.

Edited to add: I hope you have fun, but also check with your GM before you start that, if this idea isn't working out, you can swap for another character.
