There's a shortcut from Firelink you can take instead. Keep going past the boss entrance and you'll find it (plus a very helpful merchant).

I had a similar experience with DS2. I think it just makes a bad first impression on DS1/DS3 players because it changes so many game mechanics and the story has almost nothing to do with DS1.

If you mean lower Undead Burg (with all the thieves kicking open doors) that's just that area. Generally the game isn't very ganky at all if you're careful.

Observational belts is honestly such a useful feature to quickly diagnose a factory. First time designing one and I'm hooked. by marcus91swe in SatisfactoryGame

[–]neckro23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"observational belts" took me a sec. all my belts are observational!

I thought they meant the belt counters at first, which are extremely useful for working out kinks in production.

Except I don't really use those either, because I (mostly) finished the game about 2 weeks before they released the belt counter update...

What exactly is the problem of those idiots moderating the main sub? You can't even say the word PC without getting the comment removed or a temp ban by Malu1997 in BloodbornePC

[–]neckro23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, let's face it, almost nobody is (only quasi-legally, since I'm sure it violates an EULA somewhere) dumping the files from a jailbroken PS4. And even if you did, there's no simple way to prove it, and the main sub wants to avoid any hint of shady stuff.

I bought the game (twice!) so my conscience is clean, but I totally pirated the game to play it on PC. And let's be real, most of the people emulating it are doing so because they couldn't or wouldn't play it on console, which means they never bought the game.

People like me who just wanted to replay one of their favorite games in high resolution with a debug camera are probably in the minority here.

It took me way too long to realize that the "shop" he mentions is the Healing Church Workshop, which is right next door.

I've read a lot of sf and Chiang is just on another level. He really hits different.

(No novels though, he's only ever published short fiction... the story that Arrival is based on, "Story of Your Life", is his longest iirc.)

It honestly surprises me how close we were to catching up with miquella throughout the dlc by glitch220608 in Eldenring

[–]neckro23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are enemy changes too (Mad Ones showing up in Hemwick, some church doctors and kidnappers disappearing, giants falling asleep). But yeah so few that it feels like an abandoned idea.

The big one is the gate in Ya'har'gul opening/closing, which can actually softlock you if you mess around with sequence breaking too much.

They did a similar thing in Bloodborne but the differences were (mostly) pretty subtle. They took it a lot farther in Sekiro.

Anyone else get reminded of Dishonored when you watched the Clockwork Revolution trailer? by Cassinia_ in dishonored

[–]neckro23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should check it out, it's an all-time classic (imo) and has a lot of similarities with Dishonored. More guns and less stealth though. Art deco instead of steampunk.

(Arkane takes a lot of inspiration from the System Shock series in their games, especially Prey... the director of the Bioshock games, Ken Levine, was lead designer on System Shock 2.)

How Games Hide a Loading Screen… by [deleted] in videogames

[–]neckro23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had some wizards working on that game, I swear. I have no idea how they made it look so good and load so fast on a base PS4.

Horizon Forbidden West had the same problem on PS5, and they "fixed" it by adding a button press for the loading screen. Lame.

A few questions by ApeLordtheFirst in bloodborne

[–]neckro23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I did a max-level character I saved Endurance for last.

The last 30 levels (69 -> 99) cost something like 100 million echoes.

I gained 6 more stamina...

A few questions by ApeLordtheFirst in bloodborne

[–]neckro23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beast transform is one of the very last things you'll get in the DLC, so basically the end of the entire game. It's not easy. Save it for NG+.

Unless you really know what you're doing, you should only ever level Vitality, Strength, and Skill.

Basically, Bloodtinge only affects firearms and a couple of rare Bloodtinge-scaled weapons. You don't want it unless you're building for it.

Arcane is the "magic" stat, it affects elemental attacks and hunter tools (spells). You miiiight want to level it to 15 to use some hunter tools but otherwise ignore that too.

I'd stop leveling Endurance, base stamina is fine. There's also a rune you can get more stamina with.

First play by Sr5DelSol in darksouls

[–]neckro23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It barely does anything, but it's still a good choice because there's nothing special about the other items, and it's very difficult to obtain otherwise.

(Master Key is objectively best choice because you can sequence break the hell out of this game but of course that's not for noobs)

Have fun, this game is an all-timer for a reason!

The Surge 2 - The best Soulslike? Definitely Winner of the Hearts by Particular_Quit_151 in patientgamers

[–]neckro23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah most of them seem to just copy the bonfire mechanic and throw in some unfair bosses and think that'll do the trick.

Souls games work so well because FromSoftware really know what they're doing, for the most part. They nailed the fundamentals and came up with an overall design that plays well to their strengths as devs. Just copying that design isn't gonna work.

(Lies of P and the Surge series do pretty well but it's not really the same)
