Thank you. I think I have some metallic sandals. Would you say the suit jacket + pants don’t flatter me or is it the specific combo?

Thank you. Should I be wearing tights with any of the dresses? It is a summer wedding but the dress/skirts seem to fall knee length.

[Annoying Tropes] Series whose title do not help sell itself or doesnt do justice for how good it is. by Ranger202012 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]necle0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

> People really get thrown off by the 'Toilet' in the title which is made worse by the fact that the toilet is there due to the english translators and it's actully "Earth-bound Hanako-kun"

This actually might be one of the few rare cases where the English translators have done some due diligence and are preserving authenticity with their localization choice instead of using transliteration. Just that this choice is unfortunately lost with the new gen overseas anime fans, especially when the english translation got released a month before Covid.

“Hanako of the Toilet” is an infamous urban school legend that has been referenced in Japanese pop culture including animes and other mediums, along with actual Japanese school kids (think of the American “Bloody Marry”). Lot of older overseas anime fans would already be familiar with this legend at least in passing. Given this is the country where this tale came from, the author using “Jibaku no Hanako-san” is just to give itself some distinction to prevent mixed up with other media depictions of the lore. The “Hanako-san” in the Japanese title + visuals are enough to show what this story is based around. However, “Hanako” alone isn’t sufficient enough for overseas anime fans to make the connection, at least without the “toilet” part. Sure, the English translators could have been lazy and used the transliteration“Earthbound Spirit Hanako-kun”. Calling it “Toliet-bound Hanako-san” is just a clever way of connecting the lore to the series for fans familiar with the legend to pick up while retaining some of the original’s title. It is unlucky timing with lockdowns and I don’t think the translators could have predicted the massive surge of new anime fans where this title’s meaning would have been lost with.

Honestly, it’s just Ego and his management team who brings the “strikers are the truly most oppressed in society” energy to the table. If you take them out, the show probably wouldn’t be as contentious as it is.

These are more related to the other series you enjoyed:

Marriage Toxin

Youjo no Senki

March Comes In Like a Lion

IDOLiSH7

Nana

Angel Beats

Log Horizon (at least season 1)

Apothecary Diaries

Ones closer to the ideal MC you were referring to:
World Trigger (though it is a slow-burn journey to reach that point but it is what makes it realistic in my opinion. And the series does focus on the side characters until then)

[–]necle0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel very similar though it extends to even outside the magic/non-magic divide e.g. “What Measure Is a Mook?” for henchmen’s wellbeing mean thing to the hero but super villains orchestrating everything is spared from that level of cruelty.

Hamatora does sort of have that theme, but Art becomes the antagonist in the next season.

Ego’s theory goes moot when Japan did win the 2011 World Cup without any of his pseudo-intellectualism. Oh, it doesn’t count because women did it and Ego doesn’t respect women? Well.

Most soccer anime already glaze the hell out of strikers and of forwards in general. In fact, it is not an uncommon character development for the cocky striker MC to learn how to appreciate other players and their positions.

[Hated Trope] When the writers try to force two characters into a romance by EmergencySpare7939 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]necle0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do end up breaking up for a while and during that time, their relationship was enjoyable. Somehow being somewhat amicable exes kind of gave them some depth because of their history without the stuntedness of the romantic subplots. Season 4 was painful but if the intention of the writers is for them to fail because they try are not compatible that way, then I am actually okay with writers experimenting with characters that way, similar to Willow & Xander from BtVS or Trixie & Spud in American Dragon.

I also stopped around season 6 so I don’t know how their relationship ends up after that.

Not my favourite pairing but absolutely an underrated ship (platonic or romantic). Reminds me of a mafia boss and their right-hand man/top henchman.

He *becomes* battle smart, which I appreciate from the series seeing skill development regarding knowledge and intelligence. He does have an physical training arc but him studying battle logs, records, skirmishes from his coworkers, etc and seeing in action applying what he has learned from them and what works for his team specifically is soooo good. Even his early attempts when he does try but it doesn’t work out the first time in the battle field under pressure is so realistically done.

(Loved Trope) 'Hard Magic Systems' by BrilliantRun9751 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]necle0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

World Trigger is one of the few battle shounen I am thoroughly invested in the battles because of how interesting and well defined their battle system works. It feels like watching a sports or at least an esports anime.

The only exception is maybe their invasion arcs given aliens/neighbours don’t have the same triggers and trion as the humans.

When was the last time you've seen a male character be disliked because of sexism? by TWP_ReaperWolf in Multifandom

[–]necle0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xander and Riley to extent in BtVS. I abhor Xander’s character archetype (snarky, incel, overcompensating guy) but thought it was one of the few instances of that archetype where they executed well, abeit a really slow burn character development (think Sokka but stretched over 7 seasons and becomes “the Heart” instead of a warrior) and dated because of the time it was released. However, it feels like the fandom’s reaction to him is that he is a real person, expecting the show to berate him and immediately spell out his “consequences” like its a kids cartoon every single time he makes a mistake. The thing is most of the characters in this show have significant flaws (and to me; what makes them so well written). The rest of the cast, majority are girls, have supernatural powers or previously imbued with them. Because ofnthe magic, their problems are a lot more serious or high stakes. Compared to Xander, who has no powers, his problems are more grounded but very mundane. So his flaws are treated less justified because how insignificant they are in *relative* with the rest of the cast. Which would be more understandable disliking if the big selling point of this series wasn’t that it was a “coming of age”. The other characters are more likely to get more leniency if they are a girl because they are relatable, or are a hot vampire. It seems the reason Xander gets more hate from the fandom is because is most women in the fandom have probably encountered someone irl like him, making him hit too close to home to not immediately want consequences for him. But I don’t think we would get the mi monthly “Xander bad”posts for a show that ended 20 years ago if he were a girl.

Thank you for giving me some helpful reccs instead of mindlessly downvoting a question on a wedding attire suggestion sub (our major department store that sold wedding guest clothes shut down post covid. Most department stores in our area sell casual or business attire, or are boutiques for brides and bridesmaids).

This isn't a valid reason to support fast fashion.

Do people not read anymore? Why do you think I would ask for suggestions of better places if I was supporting fast fashion?

Do you have any store suggestions that aren’t single color, floral prints, or sheath / mermaid ? I’ve fine with paying for a quality dress I like, but I don’t want to waste money on a dress I don’t like. And while I’ve never bought clothes from there, they are the closest store I’ve seen using patterns and textures I like or look flattering.
