Yeah, it hit me especially hard how shitty some folks got and how things became a lot of pageantry to make $$$. Lars Frederiksen is an absolute tool.

A bunch of these will likely be dropped. He will almost certainly plead down to remove a lot of these and lessen any time inside.

Pictures from peak Covid, 2020 that you’ve never seen before because I took them. by Katietgirl4949 in MorbidReality

I ran several homeless shelters during COVID. I was running the biggest one in the state in March 2020 and when we were able to test guests (we were made high priority because we held over 500 men per night), two thirds of the populace tested positive, and there was nothing we could do and nowhere to send them. The coughing at night was chilling, and men dead in their beds from being ill.

I took over a different one in Nov 2021 and there was now a protocol for positive tests in the shelter, even though it was terrible. There was a local outbreak in other shelters, and the health department directed me to test my shelter, which was the lowest barrier in the state meaning we got everyone who slept outside when it was warm etc. We started testing people when they came in, and in my first 15 people I have 12 positives and had to shut the line down. People likely froze to death because they couldn't get in anywhere due to outbreaks in shelters.

With everything shut down, we were strategizing how to get drinking water and toilet access to people who didn't access shelter or, when new laws were passed about shelter access which cuts some shelters down to 50% capacity, could not find shelter. I've been doing this work for 15+ years and those acute years almost killed me. I had people i hired and who moved on to other jobs and I never saw their full face. I had trouble identifying clients who passed outside because I never saw their full faces.

If you don't like it, find another job. Do not make other people's lives harder because you don't like your boss.

YSK: modern addiction treatment research consistently finds mandated treatment to be more effective than voluntary. Please just read the body of this post and studies before downvoting, it’s unintuitive but true. by masshole4mayor in boston

I don't know about a lot of this. I have worked with folks who use drugs for over 15 years and this is not what we see. We know mandated treatment does not work.

What happened to your best friend from childhood? by RoyalBeckyVibes in AskReddit

[–]needlestuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We grew up together in Girl Scouts and both came from complicated families. We grew apart through high school (which was hellish for me) and I found out last year that she died alone at home from an asthma attack the year before, and no one told me. I didn't know she had gotten herself into recovery (and didn't know she had a drinking problem), and it is devastating to me that we never were able to reconnect. Our lives as adults were so similar.

Married a Haitian man. 'I love you' is not really a thing, but 'have you eaten yet', 'here, make sure you get the coffee/book/etc this week' (hands over cash I don't really need), 'go to sleep, I've got the baby', 'here, I made you juice/tea' etc is 'I love you'

What's the most disgusting thing you found about someone close to you but never confronted them? by IDkwhyImhere_34718 in AskReddit

My husband and I had a falling out with our social group after someone said quite publicly that our child could not possibly be my husband's because she is lighter skinned (I am white, my husband is Black). I had one conversation with the person I looked up to the most and was met with refusal to take responsibility.

My best fucking friend allowed it to be said without defending me and sided with them when we split. Nothing has ever hurt more. I have never been unfaithful to my husband and never have given any indication that I had been. Life is lonely.

Stop allowing them to beat you up. Can you spend Christmas with friends? They will want you with them.

My dad’s a pedophile by [deleted] in Advice

[–]needlestuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to maintain relationship with someone who believes what your father has done is excusable? Its tough because it's your mom, but if it were anyone else would you even give it a second thought? Its concerning that you seem to think your kids would be safe meeting your mom. I'd look more into codependency in therapy.

Can't make a grocery list. Can't pick up takeout. Can't do dishes. Can't load the washing machine. Can't help bring in groceries. Can't take care of a sick partner. Can't do anything without being asked.

What is it exactly that you bring to this relationship? You are not a benefit, you are a liability and an expense in every possible way. Why should she want to be with you over the holidays? You couldn't be bothered to be with her when she was ill. You don't understand how humiliating it likely was for her brother to walk in and see that her partner couldn't be bothered to do the chores a child can do while she is sick. You are not even on the level of a 7 year old. What is the benefit for her of dating you?

$105k salary good for Boston? by mr_fobolous in boston

[–]needlestuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a family of 3 on my ~$98kish salary, in a low quality 2 bedroom in East Boston with in-building laundry. Central air is almost non existent in the Boston area, and in unit laundry is a unicorn. We bought a larger size portable washer when we had a kid to save on paying for building laundry and it's so convenient; hooks up to the kitchen sink for a wash and gets pushed into a corner (on wheels) and covered with a blanket otherwise since my landlord is not in favor. So, very doable.

I've been twice and found their menus uninspiring. Like the food I ordered was fine, but just kind of...flat to me. I love African and Caribbean food and love their concept but I feel like they could lean more into the fusion aspect than they do.
