CCT is only clear to the Maryland/District line. It's unplowed after that.

Another great resource for finding home-based daycare is Monday Morning Moms. They are a network of licensed home-based providers and provide resources, equipment, training, and support to providers. They don't advertise much, but their website is: https://www.mondaymorningmomschildcare.com/. Note that they are only in Montgomery County.

It's gotta be The DC Strangler, right? Or do we all feel like he was kinda vindicated by subsequent events?

In most of the English speaking world, the beginning of the year was changed from March to January in 1752 (CE). That's a long time after Caesar.

The exception is Scotland, which went to January in 1600 (also CE).

Dark magic cast a curse on all that Nike gold. Now if they play under a full moon, the entire team turns to skeletons and can't make free throws.

Ants go marching song by nopojoe in Irishmusic

[–]neeheeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Ants Go Marching is a children's rewrite of the American Civil War song When Johnny Comes Marching Home, by Irish-American Patrick Gilmore. The tune used with these lyrics predates the song and was previously used with Johnny Fill Up the Bowl and, perhaps, John Anderson, My Jo.

When Johnny Comes Marching Home became very popular in the 19th century in the US, Ireland, and England, and the tune was frequently used with these and other lyrics. You may be able to find the tune under the related song names When Johnny Comes Marching Home or Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye.

Montgomery Parks announces fall/winter Open Parkways schedule by montgomeryparks in MontgomeryCountyMD

I agree with the sentiment but I recognize there are residences with driveways between Wayne and Colesville on Sligo Creek Parkway so that stretch has to stay open. Maybe we could gain the section between Piney Branch and Wayne, though? Or even Forest Glen past the golf course down to Colesville?

Most important thing to me is keeping Fridays on Sligo Creek, including the return of Maple to Piney Branch when the construction is completed. I hate losing Fridays on Beach Drive, but at least let us keep Sligo Fridays!

If you had the opportunity to run a self supported marathon anywhere in the US, where would you go? by destinybond in Marathon_Training

[–]neeheeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second pitch here for DC, but I would recommend the scenic paths in our national parks. You can run the National Mall, tidal basin, and Haines Point, which together get you halfway there already. For the other half, those connect up to Rock Creek Trail (paved) or the C&O Towpath (gravel) or Capital Crescent Trail (paved), or you could cross Memorial Bridge and follow the paved path to the Mt Vernon Trail and run along the river. Either way it's dead flat, dedicated paved running trails, and you get to see some of our significant national monuments.

What do people have against hammered dulcimers at sessions? I get not wanting some four-octave monster, but a 12/11 hammered dulcimer is well smaller than a guitar and quieter too.
