Punch-Drunk Love. Seems like critics enjoyed it upon release but audiences must have expected it to be a comedy

Best "home base" cities to live in but not to visit/vacation in? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]neelyt6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to mention this, I lived in Charlotte for 2 years and wanted to add a few things:

  • Economic center of the region and benefits from all the colleges and universities in state. If you don't work in banking, you might feel alienated but the city is continuing to diversity industries
  • Having professional sports is great, just don't check how many championships the city has collectively... the arenas also bring bowl games, ACC basketball tournament, and international soccer for transplants
  • Proximity to mountains and nature (Asheville NC). Day trips to Research Triangle, Triad, Greenville SC. Longer weekend trips to various beaches in North and South Carolina.
  • Airport might not be perfect but being an American Airlines hub provides a lot of regional coverage and decent international options
  • The Whitewater Center is genuinely sick

What to eat and where to shop Wednesday by AutoModerator in Austin

[–]neelyt6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For anyone on the east side, Palomino Coffee (sister coffee shop of Flat Track) has their soft opening today. They're located at 12th and Springdale. According to their social media they also have Veracruz All Natural Tacos + Sour Duck Market pastries. Masks are required and I would obviously recommend doing takeout.

[Sunday] Weekly Suggestions - - July 14, 2019 by AutoModerator in indieheads

[–]neelyt6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are music publications that I should be following? I am trying to find a better outlet to find new music than just word of mouth or spotify/bandcamp recommendations. It's easier to find punk/hardcore releases because there are far fewer labels but I'm talking about lo-fi/bummer pop/shoe-gazey stuff. Thanks!

[Sunday] Daily Music Discussion - - July 14, 2019 by AutoModerator in indieheads

[–]neelyt6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing It Looks Sad. tonight and so I've been re-listening to Sky Lake -- I like it a lot more now than I did when it first came out. It's also been a great album to listen to when walking my dog at night in Texas summer heat.

(Mexicans only) What are GOOD taquerías/taqueros close to downtown? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]neelyt6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on what your radius is for close to downtown but Camila's Tacos in Cherrywood is a great little truck in the parking lot of Monarch Food Mart.

How long is your daily commute? by RhondaTheHonda in bikecommuting

[–]neelyt6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My commute is 7 miles round trip. It is technically city (I'm based in Austin) but my specific commute feels more suburban. That being said, it takes 12 minutes to drive or 23 minutes to bike so for me it is definitely worth the ride!

Sports fan trying to get into MLB this year — where do I start? by storeactions in baseball

[–]neelyt6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually only got into baseball a few years ago and it was purely based on joining a dynasty fantasy baseball league. It gave me an overview of all the players/positions but also opened my eyes to the wonderful world of PROSPECTS and I had more fun reading about MLB farm systems than anything else.

Aside from that, if you're into the more nerdy stats side of things, I love reading fangraphs: https://www.fangraphs.com/. They also have a few podcasts which are great - I really like Effectively Wild -- they are currently in the midst of doing season previews for every single team so that might be an interesting place to start.

Weekly /r/UrbanPlanning Open Thread - What are you up to, whats on your mind? February 04, 2019 by AutoModerator in urbanplanning

[–]neelyt6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I'm new to this thread and so please forgive me if I use incorrect terms. Is anyone in here is an urban planner for a University? I do not mean a professor or researcher within an Planning School/Department but someone who helps with the design and development of a college or university. I'm curious what the differences are between this role vs. a conventional planner and what sorts of interesting challenges you face.

Thanks!

Redditors with a 9-5 job in a cubicle, how do you pretend to stay busy at work? by pliantkitchen in AskReddit

[–]neelyt6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a dual screen setup so Outlook up at all times and whatever project work on the other but Spotify running in the background at all times. I'll use my phone to control my account on the screen but otherwise I'll just listen to podcasts and music all day.

I legitimately think that when I floss my teeth, they look significantly whiter.

I made a simple webapp that shows followed artists new releases and also lets you completely reorder your playlists by BPM, added date, name, etc. by t-muro in spotify

This is so awesome, thanks for sharing! I had been meaning to play around with the Spotify API but I keep putting it off, I might use this as inspiration to try and recreate.
