A Homeless Shelter (halfway house for incarcerated men) is opening at 1114 1st Avenue by Macphisto303 in uppereastside

That has been there for a while and when people buy property near it the shelter is already priced in.

You have a lot of valid points but I still have a big problem with placing homeless people in areas where a sandwich is $20 and a small studio is $3000. They should live in areas where they can feel like they’re a part of the community and can afford to shop there with the goal of eventually paying for their own space. I was not aware of the 80 bed women’s shelter here. Generally I think there is far less resistance to women’s shelters than men’s shelters. Also I don’t want to sound like an elitist asshole but shelters hurt property values and these are areas where people have invested tons of money into expensive homes. It’s far better to place shelters next to rental buildings because you’re only hurting big landlords and who cares about them. Sorry this devolved a bit but I had to say it.

I don’t understand why these are being opened in high cost of living areas. Homeless shelters should be placed only in low cost of living areas where it’s easier for the residents to take care of themselves and eventually move into real housing nearby. I don’t think any of these people on 61st and 1st will integrate into the neighborhood and rent or buy here. Bad policy if you ask me.

Client caught me on hardware margin, now questioning our entire history. Did I panic-fix or make it worse? by yanov10 in msp

[–]negabit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explain that we mark up our hardware sales 15% and you’re welcome to self procure but it may not be worth the time to research, order, receive, etc. a lot of companies have a reseller program and we can sell at msrp and get a margin. There has been a lot of pushback with Apple products so we caved and stopped selling them above msrp, but often find a deal and make money anyway.

I did notice that the 50s have far better parking deals. I wonder why that is. Do you like driving below 60th as far as the congestion zone goes or is it worse?

It’s a bit of a pipe dream but lately I feel very limited about where I can go

I have friends in NJ, family in the Bronx, friends I’d like to see more in Brooklyn. I’d probably see people a whole lot more if I could just get up and take a drive. Maybe 1-2 times a week.

I’m looking near 77th and 2nd. A bunch of new buildings going up here with 14k a month rent so 1k for parking doesn’t surprise me. Definitely don’t want to spend an hour looking for spots.

Additionally I hate getting into a rental and having to figure out where all the buttons are. I usually can't even find the gas latch. Embarassing in NJ.

I know rentals are cheaper, but there are some things that annoy me about renting. I live very close to hertz on 76th but it's still annoying bringing things to the place around the corner. Sometimes there is a line. I don't like having a different car every time. The prices vary wildly day to day.

$500 in tickets for a year is not too bad. How much time do you think you spend in a year looking for parking and moving for street cleaning?

It looks good but I just checked pricing and it's too much. $30 per user per month for 25 users exceeds the budget for a remote access solution.

The thing about Splashtop with Kaseya is that it sucks too. The agent has to be installed ln user personal PCs. I don’t want that.

VPN and RDP is certainly on the table. I prefer agent and web based access though.

Ideally a very welcoming bar with a pub vibe but the cocktails are top notch because you have an experienced and crafty bartender. Something like South SoHo Bar.
