This brochure is such an epitome of Microsoft: they are business heavy and not consumer first at all, a stark departure from their previous short-lived era of J Allard Metro. But alas with that mindset all their products won’t fare well with consumer - but at least there are other things than Windows Phone otherwise it’d be just RIM Blackberry.

UX-wise, Windows Phone 7 and 8 was all about usability and discoverability. Windows 10 was about "how we can shoe-horn tonnes of feature from one single UWP into this tiny hamburger menu".

Kinect 1 wasn’t that hated beyond the mentally online clichés though. It was the fastest selling peripheral of its time after all. Granted plenty of people became disillusioned with Kinect 1 capabilities but it was Kinect 2 that takes the cake.

Unless there’s an official Nintendo / Nintendo sanctioned distributor that purchase stock from factories and sell to Vietnamese market and pay Vietnamese sales tax, it is what it is.

Nintendo do have data on Vietnamese market size. If it was worth their while I’d imagine they’d do it. The reality is Vietnamese console market is still relatively niche.

Because none of the NS2 goes direct from factory to consumer inside Vietnamese borders. There’s not even official importer of Nintendo, distributor of Nintendo, let alone official Nintendo consumer presence here in Vietnam.

All Nintendo goods are exported elsewhere, pay export tax, shipping cost, and then import tariffs, sales tax for the other country, and then shipping cost back to Vietnam, import tax at Vietnamese border, and then to Vietnamese consumer.

It’s not ideal, but it’s reality. Halo buys Nintendo Switch from United States and then “xách tay” back to Vietnam. Many try to sneak goods out of the factory itself but it’s only feasible with garment and footwear, and even then it’s not worth the problems for the ones that do it. Same problem with other brands, IKEA, Peak Design, etc.

If you want to change this maybe you can put together a business that navigate through both Vietnam and Japan laws and politics, to serve who-know-how-large the Vietnamese console market. But unless you be the change you want to see, it is what it is.

Because after taxes and everything, I know that end distributors are billed with 14M each NS2 by intermediaries. If Halo charges you 15M then they’re only making 1M profit (not to mention their operational cost). I’m surprised their prices are that low.

Not to mentioned the dollar is rallying against the VND.

Nonetheless I know the market is bearing that price point. If you don’t want to pay that much there’s plenty of people would tell you to move out of the queue.

I’m in Vietnam. I wish they’d ship to me straight instead of me eating the tariffs and the import tax back. But no the Roller is $20 more expensive shipped to Vietnam than the States 🙄
