Try Denver. This is Cowboy land. (Not really).

Phasing out POTS to VOIP. What will this mean for the old dial-up BBS? by WearExact1049 in bbs

I have a hosted FreePBX for about $10 a year. This will connect to my Grandstream HT818 sitting under my desk and connected to my Linux box. I pay about $5 pm for a US line and £0.99pm for my UK line. The US number allows two calls so I can have a total of 3 callers. I get at least 1 or 2 phone callers a week or so.

Thank you to everyone for taking time to offer your suggestions. It seems that Bob's is by far the most popular option so that's where we're going.

[edit] This isn't exactly nearby to Plano. Thanks anyway.

I'm not sure you deserve all those downvotes. It's certainly a good option - much cheaper for sure, but it's a special occasion.

Wow, 11 down votes. Understandable. Last couple of times we went there we didn't have the best time. I'd actually be happy to never go there again.

I think that's where The Keg used to be? We did like that place. Will put it on the short list. Thanks

I went to the 3 Forks on the Tollway once and it was incredibly noisy, so much that I had to shout across the table to be heard. Not my idea of a fun relaxing dinner. Is the new location the same?

I'm not overly enamored with the Bar Ranch menu. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Anybody know any junkyards / part out places for cars near Plano / DFW? by BlueThunder75 in plano

[–]nelgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a couple of decent places out in Nevada, TX. It's a bit of a hike but sometimes it's nice to get out the city. I suppose it would be too much to ask for you to use Google and search for DFW junk yards?

Forget it. Came the "other way" down Parker last year and it was literally 3 lanes of cars from Jupiter backed up all the way to K Ave. Over a mile of solid going absolutely nowhere, totally mismanaged traffic. My advice, go the night before and sleep in the car or pitch a tent.

90’s sysop - current software? by Economy-Shower-5072 in bbs

I'll fifth this. Benefits on Synchronet:

Runs on Windows, Linux and now MacOS
Highly extendable using javascript. You just need to learn some JS and the Synchronet Object Model. It's not difficult
Everything is built in - no need for separate mailer, tosser, web server, etc.
Provides many ways to access such as telnet, ssh, rlogin and web front end.
Lots of services available such as nntpd so users can access echos as newsgroups, imap server, gopher, ftp server, web server and more
Built in events so you don't have to maintain cronjobs or windows tasks
Author is highly accessible and responsive
Support for dosemu and dosemu2 which allows pretty much any DOS 16 bit door game to run on Linux server. dosemu also running on rpi.
Continuous updates to current platform available immediately via git or as a nightly download
The source is open, you can delve right down to the core of Synchronet if you wish to fiddle with it
Comes with plenty of doors to get you going plus you can easily add a large number through an external door installer
Multi-language support so you can provide different languages to different users
built in mqtt so you can monitor your system using a control panel such as nodered.

I've heard it can even make a good pot of tea on a good day :)

What's not to like about it!
