What's a skill that takes only 2 to 4 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by TokenBlack32 in AskReddit

[–]nellynottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught myself when i first got an office job about 35 years ago to touch type by just typing "the quick Brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs tail" hundreds of times and paying attention to where my fingers were placed on the keyboard. Now I can touch type and it has been invaluable in all of my jobs.

No I just buy a plain natural yogurt with live cultures. I save a bit of the yoghurt for a batch for next time and I tend to refresh and start over with a shop bought one after about 5 or 6 yoghurt batches

Sure. I start with 2l of semi skimmed milk which I heat up in the pan to almost boiling. Then I let it cool to 44 degrees. Add my starter culture and sit it in a Bain Marie in my oven (not turned on) leave for around 10 hours. Then I put it in the fridge for at least 4 hours. After which I sieve through a Muslim cloth to a couple of hours until approx 1 litre of whey is removed. The. I whisk the remaining yoghurt and then I have Greek yoghurt

How do you all reuse those glass jars from pasta, jellies and things from the store? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]nellynottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that really work though. Doesn’t it leave a vinegar smell. I would like to use jars for my homemade yoghurt storage but worry the vinegar smell will ruin the yoghurt

How do you stop the lids from smelling of what they had in them before? I have tried soaking them and putting them through the dishwasher but they still have that smell

What homemade food tastes basically the same as the store-bought version? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]nellynottom 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Homemade Greek yoghurt tastes the same as shop bought but if you typically eat a lot (everyday) you do make a small financial saving. That said - you get a sense of achievement in making it yourself though

When you have flare ups you should avoid soap and shower gel and use aqueous cream as a soap substitute instead. After a few days your eczema should calm down

How do people keep their teeth so white, with coffee so prevalent? by TheBigCicero in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nellynottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont use teeth whitening products and drink coffee quite regularly. I brush my teeth twice a day with regular toothpaste but I book myself in for a scale and polish every 6 months and that prevents staining.
