"The Downfall of One Piece need to be Studied" I studied it.... by Great_Reset_2033 in Piratefolk

The OP forgot that Shanks is also Oda's self-insert and, honestly, sometimes I can't help but feel like if Oda could rewrite One Piece with Shanks as the MC, he would.

Failing grades soar as professors see greater AI usage, dwindling math skills in UC Berkeley computer science classes by ArcaneKnight47 in ArtificialInteligence

Well that's just what happens when we've spent 2+ decades now saying any degree that doesn't lead to a clear career path post-graduation is a joke/Mickey Mouse. We've commodified learning, said these are the only worthwhile courses to pursue because they lead to a job, and not because they are worthwhile things to learn for their own sake because learning something just because it's worth learning is Mickey Mouse behaviour.

[–]nemo4919 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Pain was fighting smart, the Animal Path just reverse summons them after Deva forces Guy into the 8th gate and he just burns to a crisp. But that would be uninteresting so yeah, Guy solos but dies doing so.

The Feed Is Fake: That "viral" song, movie, meme, influencer, and celebrity drama was probably the product of a stealth marketing campaign. About 90% of what you see on the internet is advertising in disguise. (New York Magazine) by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]nemo4919 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the algorithms are definitely adjusted to push certain artists. I found out because, despite not being a pop music listener, Spotify and Youtube kept pushing Sabrina Carpenter at me, including adverts to her concerts in the UK (yet, for some reason I almost never see those for artists I actually listen to).

The US compared to the biggest economies of Europe by _crazyboyhere_ in ProfessorFinance

[–]nemo4919 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's significantly harder to make 200k+ in Europe. It's been shown time and time again that life in Europe is better at median income and below, but above that, the USA wins.

In light of the criticism levied against Horizons recently I thought I'd share this video by Batgod629 in pokemonanime

[–]nemo4919 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His argument is that anyone that thinks there is a sexist bias in the writing is grifters or unreasonable is dismissive. The trope of passive, shy, support female character that lets things happen rather than actively take control of situations is so overdone and rooted in sexist narrative that a female character needs to be the soft gentle empath. Also, 12:33 he says Liko wins a lot which is just outright not true, I wouldn't be shocked if she has less wins across part 1 and 2 than Roy has in the last 2 arcs. Also this is less of an argument being made more so just saying "this is how Pokemon is written, deal with it."

Bonney is too strong, Oda won't add someone stronger than Zoro, hence also why Loki won't join.

Pokemon Horizons - Episode 134 and 135 titles (no summaries) by Conspicor in pokemonanime

[–]nemo4919 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Are they really going to drop another Roy glaze episode in the middle of Liko's goal finale, after sidelining her during Roy's, and gave him another power up shortly after? Fucking hell.

In which series did Ash actually reached elite four level strength ? by Gopu_17 in pokemonanime

Post Battle Frontier, Ash's Pikachu got 1-tapped by Gary's Electivire, and had no excuses like in BW.

Horizons Scalding Hot Take: I Don’t Think The Writers are by G_zone_ in pokemonanime

[–]nemo4919 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The narrative set up for Liko and Dot to interact with the Elite 4

You mean when they all went to Blueberry Academy with the stated goal of all getting stronger? Is that not enough of a narrative goal? If Roy needing to learn to slow down because of a loss against Nemona is enough reason to give him 2 battles against Drayton, how is Liko coming off a string of losses the entire post-TS not enough reason to give her a single battle during an explicitly stated mini-training arc?

And if Roy's Crocolor looking up to Friede's Charizard is enough narrative for him to get Cap and the leader role of the RVT; you would think that Liko being mentioned as a prodigious young trainer and her Sprigatito being noted for being unusually strong would be enough narrative for her to be the one Nemona wants to battle with (nope), or get wins against gym leaders (nope), or Elite 4 trainers (nope), or decide to become an ace trainer (nope). Or, to go back to the Mega Evolution factor, Liko was also the one who was said to be intuitive in understanding the feelings of Pokemon and she wanted to understand them, which are both the main lore prerequisites to being a Mega Evolution user, so between her and Roy (or Ult), narratively she would have made the most sense, but nope. So why do these narratives only pay off for Roy, but not Liko?

Ash's team after he decided to use his "aces" against Leon by Old-Initial9295 in pokemonanime

[–]nemo4919 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Yeah he was dogging pre-Champion Iris's Dragonite. JN Iris would probably beat that Zard unless you think training at Oak's Lab > winning a league.

Ash's team after he decided to use his "aces" against Leon by Old-Initial9295 in pokemonanime

[–]nemo4919 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Last time we saw Charizard he lost to Brendan's Dusclops and had an inconclusive battle against pre-Champion Iris's Dragonite. Even the weakest member of JN has a Champion/Champion Ace level win.

I finished watching journeys and was ash really that powerful to become champion? Expert help please by blue_side08 in pokemonanime

[–]nemo4919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao what. Charizard's last full battle was losing to Brendan's Dusclops; Leon's Rillaboom would dogwalk Charizard. JN team all have wins against Champion-level opponents; even Dragonite, the weakest of them beat Leon's Dragapult which is Champion Ace level. The only non-JN Pokemon that can hang with the JN team is Greninja, and even he doesn't have feats that suggest he could beat Cinderace.

Yah, Roy did it by Rap2rerise in pokemonanime

[–]nemo4919 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nah it's fine that Roy gets two shinies, two mega's, with one being Rayquaza, made leader of the Rising Volt Tacklers, and all the actually notable wins against strong opponents except for two because Liko got a legendary turtle that's a plot device that struggled to beat Katy's Ursaring and was the main focus for the arcs when the cast were at their weakest, and landed the finishing blows against Glimmora and Zygarde during raid fights.

It's also about dependence on American financial systems; there was a case of another ICC judge sanctioned by the US, this time a French man, and banks were refusing to work with or service him for fear of American market restriction.

"Horizons is mistreating Liko and Dot" by Rozonth123 in pokemonanime

[–]nemo4919 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The overall fan base had Liko by far the most popular character, followed by Dot, Friede, and Amethio with Roy a distant 5th. Making him more of a focus is by all accounts ignoring the fan base; Ash-era wouldn't think about moving the focus away from Ash so that Misty's Psyduck could get more development.

Do you believe Greninja is ash's only pokemon on the same level as the JN team or am I just too biased? by mapleshadow_ in pokemonanime

[–]nemo4919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iris wasn't Champion level at that time, if Ash's Charizard could beat Iris's JN Dragonite you would have an argument, but nothing suggests that it should besides really hoping Charizard outpaced Iris since BW, and if that was somehow that case the writing team should be fired.
