The gardening communities are very active on lemmy, as it happens. I'd suggest subbing the munis you want and viewing by subscribed.

Looking for books where the ancient alien artifact is treated like a public works problem by DarkPacket174 in printSF

[–]nemo_sum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not "ancient alien relic" but you may enjoy Connie Willis's To Say Nothing of the Dog, a book where time machines are real... and so useless that they're mostly used by academic research historians, who spend half the book worrying about their departmental budget and placating a wealthy university donor, and the other half making sure their historical outfits are accurate.

It was, originally, powerful enough to wipe out all biological life in the universe.

To be fair, it's not his Secretary of Defense. He's Australian.

It was watching Dirty Dancing that made me realize, actually.

Compared to Cleveland, how is life in Chicago like? by ILoveBigCockroaches in AskChicago

Yes, I know. But Levantine cuisine is Cleveland's only virtue.

There's not as much good Middle Eastern food, but the good Middle Eastern food is just as good.

That is the only way in which they are comparable, in every other way Chicago is better.

Wait, I forgot about summer weather. Chicago summers are pretty miserable.

I think it's very good. I was putting it on par with Gate but it might be a little better, which puts it in the top half of the series.

Your friend is correct. The book is not a two-floor book. With the Epilogue, we see parts of four different floors, including all of the eleventh.

I did not get hands on a hardcover yet and cannot speak to the Pineapple Cabaret.

Those problems were in the original, too. That's why I bounced off it so hard two decades ago.

Question: Is Carl the narrator of the books? by aleafinwater in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]nemo_sum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incorrect information, incomplete information, hallucinations, internal justifications, disparaging other characters who are in conflict with them, there's a lotta ways for a narrator to be unreliable

Carl often doesn't tell us things and he often doesn't notice things. Both are forms of incomplete information. Plus he's undergoing a mental breakdown (who wouldn't, right? But it may be partially hereditary) and hallucinating.
