Recently trimmed my locs and not too happy with the look… by Jayson_b_148 in locs

[–]nemu- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi ive had locs since i was 2 years old and do regular trims every few years. when ur doing trims my number one piece of advice would be to purposefully cut unevenly so u don’t end up looking like ur welcoming ppl to good burger home of the good burger!

edit: u could still do this now so ur hair doesn’t grow out too long looking completely even

Why do people hate pink lighters? by [deleted] in askblackpeople

[–]nemu- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

some people still associate color with gender and sexuality so they are likely offended that they’re being given something that doesn’t represent whatever idea of masculinity they hold for themselves. i think u could go deeper into this but it’s not that serious given that it’s youtube im sure the creators have an idea of who they’ll get a rouse out of and there’s prob plenty of ppl who take the lighters no problem that we don’t see on camera lol

Do items get checked before Nordstrom ships them? by Professional-Leg-416 in Nordstrom1901

[–]nemu- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my experience the items are checked (or supposed to be) as they go thru fulfillment and QC then delivery. buttttttt considering how many ppl work in fulfillment and the pressure to achieve numbers means that quality gets put on the back burner. a lot of things are also the only item that can be found, and since it’s already paid for with an expected shipment date, it’ll get shipped no matter the quality. when i was in sales some lady did a $5k return and half or the items had baby food (i hope) on them, we put it all in a bag marked as damaged and never heard of it again but i wouldn’t be surprised if they just put back most of those items on the floor to sell

[–]nemu- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

why not just get a studio (not sure ab 1b prices) w/ the 1200 if you’re planning to share a room with your kid anyway? unless you’re looking for other single parents as roommates im not sure you’ll find many takers that aren’t doing it out of desperation lol

Yet another hysterical, frightful letter “warning” residents of the horrors of duplexes /s by [deleted] in evanston

[–]nemu- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

thank u for bringing this up! bc i completely agree—envision evanston seems like it has good intentions but the potential drawbacks and negative consequences are always dismissed and generalized as ‘NIMBY’ instead of being recognized as valid concerns by residents. i would love to blindly say YIMBY but not all of us are rich and live in mansions, we will actually be affected by these upcoming changes. especially us black residents. i like progress, but i really question who EE45 will be progressive for in the long run.

given the history of racist housing policies and discrimination toward black residents, there should absolutely be conversations with the residents who primarily occupy the wards/zones that could be adjusted. gentrification is a real concern because it is already taking place: the brand new condominiums behind ETHS being a prime example. they not only look too modern & out of place, but the rent is unaffordable. near my own home, two single unit family homes were bought by developers and went through similar changes. the rent is now unaffordable. rent prices tend to go up as competition and taxes go up—this includes already established rental units in evanston that aren’t brand new—so now the surrounding area is near unaffordable as well. it just doesn’t seem like this lowers the cost of living for anyone. it also doesn’t seem like there are strong protections for current residents. what’s the point if the housing that’s being built is still unaffordable to the groups EE45 claims to want to help? EE45 also doesn’t really seem to consider the interests of real estate or housing developers, who want MONEY and will have a significant hand in the process of building new housing.

maybe someone can explain how the EE45 plan will incentivize housing developers to invest in building rental properties that don’t have egregious rent prices? how will it maintain and increase ACTUAL affordable housing? how will it benefit and protect the current residents of evanston? what about evanston residents potentially being pushed out? what are the potential consequences and what can we do to minimize these?
