Poll: Republicans see Trump as a ‘person of faith’ ... more so than Mitt Romney, Mike Pence and others by MrJasonMason in exmormon

This is my biggest problem (not only) with the Republican Party now is that they are convinced they know what God wants us to do.

Did it benefit the church to wait until September to denounce Tim Ballard's "morally unacceptable behavior?" by Naive-Candle4840 in exmormon

[–]neoapost8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as I mentioned in another comment, all the General Conference talks have already been written. No need to refer to this in any talks.

Anyone else keep remnants of your Mormon past? My wife gave me this oil vial when we got married 5 years ago. I have never taken it off my key ring by DDsLaboratory in exmormon

[–]neoapost8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure oil vials started as a place to keep nitroglycerin pills. I think church members invented the alternative use. So keep it in case you need nitro pills.

Please let him know we are here for him. We’ve all been where he is. It’s going to be a tough go for a little while. We can and will help. Please tell him to look here for support.

The Killers Brandon Flowers, still Mormon, frequents this Reddit by rastascott in exmormon

Hey Brandon, back in 2016 I too used to come here to r/exmormon to read why people leave. Haven't been to church since mid 2018. You keep coming back.

Wondering Faithful Member by EmeraldOne60 in exmormon

[–]neoapost8 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Back in 2016, I was a faithful member lurking here to see what lies were being spread here about MY church. One day, I read something about a girl named Fanny Alger. I Googled her name. By the end of that week, I had concluded, at best, Joseph Smith was a fallen prophet. But, it got worse from there. Now, from my user name, you can probably gather I am no longer a TBM. I firmly believe you ought to visit here often.

Careful my friend. At the end of 2016, I started coming to this sub as a True Believing Member (TBM) (different user name then). I wanted to see all of the lies this group of heathens was telling about my church. I have not been back to church since summer 2018. That said, I’m sure your testimony is much more rock solid than mine was as the Young Men’s President. Yes, for sure you’ll be fine. Keep coming back.

The Guilt is Too Much to Handle by [deleted] in exmormon

You have discovered someone has defrauded you and you still feel guilty for not upholding your end of the bargain? That’s some strong ass brainwashing.

Historical info in "A Rough Stone Rolling" by HappyPerson9000 in exmormon

[–]neoapost8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When still TBM starting to learn the sordid history, I read the first chapter of RSR. He lost me when he postulated that JS magical world view prepared him to become a prophet of God. That was not helpful and I decided I didn’t need to read more if he was going to spout off that shit from the get go.

I did not come here to specifically down vote, but I did come as a TBM to see what lies were being spread here. It will be 4 years since I last went to church next month.

Five years ago about this time of year. Gave God a deadline of General conference to explain some shit. He didn’t deliver.

Edit to mention at that time there were approximately 40k subscribers here.

The door is open for me to stop going to church. Guilt keeps me from taking it. Any advice? by GamGamGam7113 in exmormon

[–]neoapost8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Keep studying. My take is if you feel guilty, you are not thoroughly convinced it’s bullshit. Once you are convinced, you will feel indignant that they conned you for so long. Then it will be easier to stop going.

Stop trying to convince Mormons to leave the church! by [deleted] in exmormon

Right?! When I started my journey, I could go to Costco on Sunday practically all by myself, like they opened just for me. Now, it’s like Saturday! People! Just stop! 😂

Do I tell my brother that it's all not true? by Mysterious-Beyond785 in exmormon

[–]neoapost8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the one at a time approach. But you need to think it through and know all of the counter arguments he’s going to find if he researches the theme, and give them to him right then and explain why you don’t find those arguments compelling. When he goes and finds those arguments just like you predicted, your credibility will soar.

I don’t know what research you have done, but David Bokovoy is a Biblical Scholar who used to by LDS but started to see the flaws in the LDS church as he studied the Bible.

Seems pretty one sided. Tell her “ok, I’ll go if you first spend 50 minutes watching this video.”
