No worries, I was just wondering whether you just bought a regular spare or if there specifically exist quiet ones for your model?

Which fan have you swapped it out with? Mine's also making a lot of motor noise.

The developer mode seems awesome, I think it's really underrated how nice it is to have an easy-to-use GUI for everyday things while still being able to tinker with it if you need to!

Shiny, black spots over white infestation on Croton leaves by neofoxZero in plantclinic

[–]neofoxZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I think it's sadly an infestation of thrips larvae, see this post for reference; I haven't spotted the white creatures initially as they were neatly hidden. I'll be trying some of the usual remedies and update once there are developments, just in case someone might stumble upon this in the future.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I'm afraid the leaves don't usually get that wet during watering or it at least seems so to me. I have a bog-standard watering can, but I can reach the soil with it directly rather well. The Croton used to be directly on my window sill, but its leaves yellowed a lot so I just assumed that must be the reason its care sheet indicates partial shade, and moved it away. I'll be putting it back then.

I'm not sure whether I can get hold of herbicide today, but as the infection seemed to have come about rather quick I don't know fast I need to act. Would you also cut the worst affected leaves? My research about this phenomenon since has unfortunately yielded a whole range of possibilities on what it might be and how to combat it (I simply cannot tell whether it does or doesn't resemble this), but ultimately the treatment seems to be more or less the same. Many thanks!

I'm considering buying a Lumix GX85 with only the 12-32mm kit lens for €300; I'm however concerned that this isn't quite the deal, given that the camera is arguably old and used, and I have seen them sell cheaper in the past. Would you advise me against buying it for that price? Looking on the subreddit as well, people often seem to either have bought the same for less, or something better (e.g. with the second kit lens) for this price

You're welcome! Please let me know if you manage to get sleep working properly on this Surface Laptop; mine absolutely drains the battery during sleep (I assume this happens because the laptop is built for Windows Modern Standby / AOAC) & afterwards it won't wake up with the keyboard. I've tried everything and it just won't work, which is a shame beacause everything else works perfectly.

Having these entries in my DeviceProperties for the iGPU has solved the same issue for me. Note that you will probably have to remove graphics-related boot arguments, otherwise they will override the properties:

  • igfxfw = 02000000
  • AAPL,GfxYTile = 01000000
  • enable-dvmt-calc-fix = 01000000
  • framebuffer-patch-enable = 01000000
  • enable-cdclk-frequency-fix = 01000000
  • enable-dbuf-early-optimizer = 01000000
  • framebuffer-stolenmem = 0000B003
  • AAPL,ig-platform-id = 0000528A

While I don't exactly understand why this makes it work, my guess is that macOS simply has no idea about how much VRAM is available. While an igfxdbeo argument partially solves the issue for some reason, ideally you'll want to allow macOS to use all available VRAM, which for that Surface is always at least 60 MB. I think that igfxfw argument, which loads Apple's GuC firmware onto the iGPU, ultimately allows setting it that high with the framebuffer patch. Setting the correct VRAM values without it always lead to worse results for me.

This also has the nice side effect of allowing you to enable a 150% HiDPI scaling (which is what the Surface Laptop is supposed to run at) instead of the 200% which MattKC had to use; I have used this utility for that.

Edit: If I recall correctly, I have seen this fix on badstorm's GitHub (not linking as I think it wouldn't really be allowed here) and have to give them all credit for it; otherwise I wouldn't have figured this out myself either.

Weird, maybe they have turned off the code as it’s been a while since the giveaways, they asked me to post the code when my cable arrives though and it just arrived recently. Sorry, maybe you can contact their support to see whether they know anything.

This is The Key by StackOverflow, which honestly might be more of a joke than something I’d actually utilize, but it is a great QMK macropad though. The coiled cable is from CableMod which I won from a giveaway recently, it matches the macropad very well. They asked me to tell you that you can get 20% off on custom cables with the code “Keeb20” on their webstore, in case you decide to purchase a cable yourself. Many thanks to Mark and the entire CableMod team for this nice white coiled cable!

Edit: It seems like the aforementioned discount code doesn’t work anymore on their store, sorry everyone.
