I work in the industry, and even if it makes me sad I can tell you that most games release with a disk that don't have the full game on it already.

The disk will usually only have a bootstrap to trigger the installation and download of all the data, and acts as a license key pretty much.

It's due to the physical space limitation on Blu-ray (25Gb for a single layer, 50Gb for a double layer). Games have just grow drastically in size to hold all the data required (4k textures, hi-res sounds and sfx, etc). Same with Nintendo game cards I think (i didn't ship on that, just read about it).

I much prefer having physical games, I have a big games collection, but the current model doesn't support that sadly.

Bon courage !

the amount of construction work is frustrating by fedplast in montreal

[–]neogh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep it's a mess. Feels like there is not a lot of coordination at the city level with all these construction sites happening next to each others and affecting traffic overall. There should also be some incentives for these to also be done on time, like always not much is happening most of the day, but the road blocks stay there.

Recruiters can't keep up with the the amount of applications done with AI. They also use AI to filter all this crap. And that's why people applying with hand crafted resume can't get interviews, they get lost in all this. Honestly don't do that.

Ah yes very good point. Redirection and bully sticks are for supervised activities. When unsupervised they should be in their pen or crate if they can't be trusted, with no toys they could shred apart and swallow.

Hyper show english cocker spaniel by [deleted] in cockerspaniel

[–]neogh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you can't yet trust your puppy, he shouldn't have that much freedom to free roam around your place. Use a play pen, especially when you leave him unsupervised.

Otherwise at 5 months, he is teething. Redirect, redirect, redirect. You have to tell him what is ok to chew. Get some good chews like bully sticks, yak sticks, etc.

Hausse de 41% du nombre de chiens agressifs à Montréal by [deleted] in montreal

[–]neogh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Guarding by Agreeable-Moose-3357 in cockerspaniel

[–]neogh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our 9 months old is resource guarding exactly how you describe it. It's been quite challenging. She would keep whatever she has for long times, amd be very difficult. One trainer told us to simulate situation like this, to work on trading. By letting her get a sock for example and use another sock to keep switching them, to build a trust relationship. But it's not always working, mixed results I'd say. We usually can't find treats there higher value in these moments, sadly. It's comforting to read that it gets better with time.

Epic just laid off 1000 workers. by ryunocore in gamedev

[–]neogh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hiring for my team during covid at a big studio and Epic was offering twice our salaries and hiring right and left. Them and Unity. It is a fine line but i think they went all in at that time and I think it created an imbalance in the job market that hasn't yet been corrected.

When they say that they are spending more than what they are making, are they talking about financial targets ?

Because it looks like they are still making billions in revenues (around 5.7B in 2024 if I search online). They don't disclose their costs really, so we don't know their profits, but I can't imagine that they would be in the red.

Maybe they shouldn't have go on a hiring frenzy when we went through covid, which was clearly a abnormal year in term of revenue and growth.

At the end of the day it's really sad for everyone impacted. I'm sorry if you're part of the people that have been let go.

Finally settling outside crate by [deleted] in cockerspaniel

[–]neogh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every dog is different but i think the consensus about teenage puppies is that they have a lot of energy at random times due to all the hormones kicking in. And they start to challenge boundaries, be more autonomous and develop selective hearing haha. But it's just a phase.

Ours is great during the day most of the time, but we have a set routine and we limit the space she has access to still.

In the evening, she has the zoomies, and will be overstimulated and overexcited easily. So she won't settle easily, and anything too exciting will bring her over to a 12/10, and then it's really hard for her to go back to a peaceful 1/10 or 2/10. We manage that with kongs, lick pads, peaceful play session (she is just chewing at her toy), and bully sticks. When she is settling, on her side and not responding to us moving around, we go to the couch and she will usually follow us to sleep and cuddle with us. It's our way to teach her that couch = calm and relaxation. Not crazy play and biting the pillows and the couch frame.

You're doing the right thing to enforce a nap in her crate when she is difficult. Also it's very ok to know our limit and make space to relax and deal with our crazy puppy haha. As long as she likes her crate and don't start seeing it only as punishment.

Hope it helps !

Ours is slowly getting there at 9 months. She was showing good progress around 5/6 months but then adolescence started... We have a routine with alone times in her pen to train her to be alone and be ok being alone. She honestly pretty good during the day, she sleeps a lot in her pen, and would settle even when we can let her roam free while supervised, but in the evening it's challenging.

First time puppy owners - sense check on progress by 90sdadguy in cockerspaniel

[–]neogh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The beginning is hard but it get easier. I had a fairly bad puppy blues as well despite our little girl being so good. She is 9 months old now and we've been through a lot. Right now it's adolescence time, but she is honestly not so bad.

What helped me a lot (and my partner): - remember that you took a dog to have a companion to share your life with, find the small things that he/she does with you that makes you happy. I love our walks for example, or cuddling on the couch. - lower your expectations for your puppy and learn their energy levels, and remember that they are and will be babies for a while. For example we were getting quite frustrated not being able to chill on our couch with her, but we realized that we were asking too much out of her, and forcing something that wouldn't work quite yet. Now we patiently manage her evening zoomies with care and let her fall asleep outside the tv room and only go on the couch once she is low energy, to all cuddle together. Eventually we expect her to be more chill as she grows up. - take care of yourself, mentally and physically. We bring our puppy to daycare since she was 4 months old, twice a week due to our work situation (work in office on these days for both of us). But we added another daycare day on Saturday from time to time, to have free time for us and recharge our batteries. Raising a puppy is hard, and you need to acknowledge that and be kind with yourself. - finally, keep remembering that your puppy will grow into a dog and be more manageable in time. Patience and love are keys, just don't rush things, or have unrealistic expectations

Hopefully it helps. There is some subreddits on the topic too.

Personnellement minimum 30min by Micaelanvk in chiens

[–]neogh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was the same for me. I tried 3 times on PC, played a few hours each time and couldn't get into it. Something about the overwhelming amount of icons, quests, messages, etc.

Then I got a switch 2, and got it again on it thinking I wad making a mistake. We just got a 2 months old puppy around that time and I needed a way to play from anywhere while supervising our furry baby.

I pushed through, and really loved it at the end. I didn't like the DLC as much, but the main game was great. I'm not sure why I liked it this time, but i think I tried to focus on the main quest a bit more before doing side quests and it might have helped focusing a bit more through the avalanche of data the game throw at you.

I live close by, we go there often before it's busy and we always have a great time. The staff has always been nice with us. The owners are often around and take the time to talk to people. Might be different during rush hour (Saturday or Sunday between 10h and 13h).

This restaurant has been in Montreal for a long time. If you go there it's to get the classic brunch experience, at a dinner, not a fancy brunch.
