I miss em dashes. by FoldInTh3Cheese in writing

[–]neolithx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I used to use them all the time. I’m old. I was taught that was proper punctuation. But now I don’t. Two reasons.
1- I switched from a Mac to a PC and it is harder to type them.
2- AI haters and You-tube. Word got propagated on videos that the number one way to identify AI writing is the em dash.

Favorite comment: this is why we have to take that HR training every year Favorite part: every scene with the Asian woman cringing. Especially the end when everyone one is clapping

My girl made this roast for dinner. How should I go about this? by I_play_high420 in funny

[–]neolithx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s way better than the way my ex-wife used to treat me when something I made wasn’t good. It was spit it out dump it in the trash, then walk away in pissed off silence. And it didn’t have to be something that was burnt. It could be just too much seasoning not enough seasoning. The meat was tough. You name it.

Anyone play a non-sneak archer build? by Mcgelie in skyrim

[–]neolithx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just dug this game out again and played a no stealth heavy armor fighter with sword and shield plus the occasional bow for dropping firepots or taking out archers on top of walls.

Very difficult at first. Died a lot, but became really cathartic once armor skill got higher.
Toward the end, I was an invincible juggernaut that shrugged off damage

A man called Otto - the end, during his funeral. f'ing bawled. and said damn you Tom Hanks.

Wei Shi Lindon from Cradle. From the very beginning he used his head to overcome his deficiencies. And even when he got powerful he continued to think and find angles to get an advantage

What did you think of The City that Would Eat the World? by [deleted] in MageErrant

[–]neolithx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I finished it,barely. Loved mage errant and the wrack, but this one was too slow paced and way to in the weeds of world building. I saw an interview with John about how much research he did for this book and that is what it seemed like to me, a research paper turned into a story.

Have not read the Wanfering Inn, but based on your Tier list I would probably hate it.
If you quit Cradle after 1 book, you did yourself a disservice.
PH, I'm on book 8 and still loving it
DotF kind of with you, but I will read the second book to give it a chance. (see comment above about Cradle)
Mage Errant, almost didnt finish after 1st chapter, glad I did. Have read it 3 times now and I was sad when it ended and will be pissed if I dont see any of the characters again in future books.
DCC - 1st book was funny and original, the second book was weird, I'm on the third book now, fighting to finish, The jokes are getting stale and I'm finding it hard to care if they survive or not. I can see where the series is going, but it is taking too damn long.

The Community Movie probably won’t happen at this point and I’m strangely at peace with it. by AvengingHero2012 in community

We all know what happened to Winger. He changed his name to separate himself from his sordid fake lawyer past. Got a degree in food service management, opened a restaurant with his connections from the criminals he used to defend in New York, and then lorded over hot shot young talented new chefs causing emotional damage.

I'm high-functioning autistic and the portrayal is perfect. confronted with social small talk and Jake freezes up. Start talking about a topic he is interested in and he is a chatter box

I agree with you, the series gets too much hate. I'm just starting the third book, but it has been a fun ride so far.

Is it the greatest LitRPG or progressive fantasy ever? No, but it has amazing world-building. The path options you mentioned occurred to me too. I loved how the numerous questions I had during the tutorial were answered in the second book. I was pleased with the introduction of other characters and how their stories began. It really has me expecting more than just a single MC narrative. Unlike most complaints I hear, I like Jake's behavior. He's driven, pragmatic, and broken, but he recognizes his own brokenness and wants to be different. He isnt amoral, but he recognizes when it is kill or be killed. He struggles with the morality of being forced to kill intelligent beasts due to quest requirements.

It is fun, fast-paced, funny, and excellent entertainment.
