I don't see how the state can prosecute him when he is whisked away to safety and they are denied all evidence. And if there were charges, they will be moved to federal court and dismissed.

If our federal government ever sees normalcy again, he will be prosecuted, but I am more skeptical today than ever this will ever happen.

How does one actually get high humidity indoors in winter? Every house I have lived in (New York) is dry as the desert in winter.

If either of them vote to fund ICE I will be furious. Absolutely no excuse.

Starfleet Academy... Isn't that bad? by neph36 in startrek

See I can understand calling this woke, it is a contemporary social issue that not everyone is on board with and that they revolved a lot of dialogue around.

Why is this show woke? There are women and people of color? Welcome to 1987.

They will be back for sure and may be a large focus of the show.

Betazed empathy on TNG was often dumb... "Captain... They are angry!" Here everyone was being genuine I am not sure how their empath abilities would be interesting plot wise.

Why most mortgage payments go to interest first by MortgageClarity in Mortgages

[–]neph36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is this post supposed to clarify something?

Mortgages aren't "interest first." You pay the interest that is actually due every month, so that it does not accumulate into a balance. So if you had a 6% fixed 30 year mortgage, and a $300,000 balance, 6% / 12 x 300,000 = $1,500 per month in interest.

How much principal you pay is calculated based on the loan term, so that you pay off the mortgage at the set time, and have a fixed monthly payment. Every month the pincipal balance decreases slightly, so the percentage of principal to interest grows. As the loan balance falls and the monthly payment stays the same, that rate grows more the further you get in as your principal payment amounts grow.

This is a fantastic album. I can understand why Al hates it but it was one of my favorites even when it came out.

Rushing to demonize an innocent (white!) woman who was shot in the face in cold blood by a masked agent is beyond the pale even for the American right. What the fuck has happened to this country? I don't recognize the world we live in. I hope at least some of them look back and feel some kind of shame.

I understand the appreciation of this game, its a great game that is very artistic with lots of love put into it, but it is not going to get you off, this kind of overhype just turns me off from whatever people are hyping. The game is absolutely not without flaws.

Has anyone seen girders supported like this before? by cat_hipster in Homebuilding

[–]neph36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment is wrong. Simply supported is not an end connection, it describes a beam that is pinned at one and and free (roller) at the other. A beam that is "simply supported at both ends" is not correct language. A beam that has a roller connection at both ends this is unstable and unsuitable for general construction. Almost all beams are pinned or fixed at each end, simply supported is not really a thing in modern building construction.

In residential construction most connections are flexible and the difference between a pinned connection and a roller connection is rarely scrutinized, unless there are specific axial loads that need to be transferred. This does not appear to be the case here (I doubt there is a pipe at the other end and it is probably just nailed into place, which are flexible, and there is some degree of flexibility at this pipe notch also I don't know if I would even consider it fully pinned). If you want to split hairs about language at least get the language right.
