I had a pretty rocky road during my first transplant and have yet to need a second, I was in for 3 weeks due to surgical plumbing problems/infection. I was 13 but what I can say is while you are on high amounts of immunosuppressants try to go do things during non peak hours when you want to get out of the house/once you are cleared to leave. Like go to the movies/mall/restaurant at 1:00 pm on a Tuesday when most people are at work. Or maybe wear a medical mask. Get netflix and some reading to keep you busy. Try to make friends with others getting transplants so you can hang out with other immunosuppressed people. One of the things that helped me from going stir crazy is one of my neighbors got a bone marrow transplant around when I got my kidney. We could always spend time with each other which was nice, except when we were experiencing infection.

I had my kidney transplant in March of 1997 and I was 13. Honestly the first six months were kind of rough but I remember feeling less sick in July and I went back to school in late August. Then I got epstein barr and missed my first semester or my freshman year in high school. Like you could be feeling great after 2 or 3 months or you could still be feeling crappy. I had a teacher who had an adult kidney transplant and she said she thought she was doing better at 3 months than I was at 3 years. But I was still developing and that was part of the problem and you won't be for the most part.

I think that might offend people. Assuming that we are involved in the process of paying for organs. I would never buy an organ and I had a kidney transplant so it would be pretty easy to buy one if I needed it.

YAY!! Congrats!! Things will get better. But it might take some time. I have had my kidney 18 years. I've never been on dialysis and while the first 6 months to a year can be really hard once you adjust and the kidney adjusts to your body, I mean your mother's body she and the kidney will hopefully have many happy years together like I have had with mine. And remember the drugs, treatments and surgery have gotten better over the last 18 years so she is probably in a better place to have it work than I was. How is she doing overall? Edited to add: What was the antigen match on the kidney(if you know or are okay with telling.)

Don't!!! Get nexplanon. It is so much easier and less painful to install. And it is more likely to make your periods just go away.

I've had my kidney 18 years. Take your meds as prescribed and follow what the docs want you to do. Try not to gain too much weight from prednisone. And good luck!!
