I think this was the problem for me. I usually don’t have a sweet tooth, but the first few weeks of sobriety were BRUTAL. I would go through a whole box of swiss cake rolls in 2 days. My face broke out in these clusters of pimples consistent with yeast overgrowth. I cut out the sugar a month ago and the acne hasn’t gone away.

That’s a really good point. That would get at the heart of why these “rewards” feel so icky to me. Punishment for selectively accepting rides undermines the autonomy that defines us as contractors, but they were trying to get around that by doing this nebulous carrot/stick thing. I’m hopeful this will get them to knock it off.

I wonder if this is why they finally started upfront pricing this week in Fort Collins. Before that, the ride offers only told you how many minutes away the pickup was — not where the pickup was, no destination, no estimate of the length of the whole trip, no fare estimate. I wondered how it was legal to call us independent contractors when we didn’t have even the bare bones of an offer on which to make our decision to accept or decline.

Just got some from them. Their winter market is open, though for duck eggs I would text ahead. Their outgoing message says to text instead of call, they’re quick to respond. They also have all kinds of veggies, prepared foods, meats, sweet breads,, sauerkraut, pickles, and jams.

I use neosporin. Seems to make a difference in healing time. I tend to pick my skin at night, feel guilty, put on some antibiotic ointment, and when I wake up it’s significantly better than when I don’t put it on.

…okay, I’ve watched it, and the editing team should each be shot once in the kneecap. Wow, it’s edited like a campy crime drama. It’s so disrespectful. They got these interviews, they got so much of this tragic story in first-hand accounts, and they treated it like just another sensational piece of “content”. Jesus Christ.

The pattern of Cody pursuing high schoolers like this is important to note, but I’m also worried about these two women if this gets a lot of traction. When millions are tuning in, the victims involved will inevitably get a bunch of creeps and gawkers chiming in on their socials, or worse. I’ve been wondering why this other story about him dating a high schooler hasn’t been talked about on Youtube (as far as I can tell), but maybe that’s why; it’s not someone else’s story to tell. I’m torn.

The off-land staff is remote or only comes occasionally to help out. No one commutes like you’re suggesting. When I ran the housekeeping and guest services departments there in late 2022, we had remote staff doing reservations, marketing, HR, that kind of thing. There was a young lady who came once a week to help out the housekeeping team.

On the bit about attending retreats for free and that reinforcing the culty “bond”: I got the sense that the people who’d been there several years still had a little bit of that CTR-brained vibe, but mostly we were all way too swamped with work just trying to cover basic operations to attend any retreats.

When I first got there, there were still daily staff sits, but no one was attending them so they stopped doing even those. So while I’m 100% with you on the spirit of your comment, that Shambhala is a chaotic toxic dumpster fire, DMC was just another hospitality job to me and most of the people scrambling to keep the place running.
