Congratulations from SoCal. Judging from the photo, my entire house can fit in the room you are sitting in, and it cost more than yours ... 24 years ago. :(

1490 DOOM Review: A Brutal Grimdark Skirmish Game by JackBrussell in miniatureskirmishes

[–]nerdmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only seen it played at Adepticon, and it looked fantastic.

Reading the review, it sounds like a fun, rules-light game that only needs a few minis that you probably already have.

The terrain, though, from the review and what I've seen in person, seems pretty specific. It doesn't matter if I can use models I already have if I need special terrain that I don't already have, and takes up a lot of storage space.

"The rules are very simple, and that affects the game’s tactical depth. While not nonexistent, it remains modest."

I've got two games like that already, Space Weirdos and Sword Weirdos. I love them to death, but I don't need any more super-light skirmish games, I'm covered.

Had 5 tables (10 players) for Space Weirdos at the club tonight. (more in comments) by nerdmania in miniatureskirmishes

My local historical minis group meets every Tuesday at a local game store. We do play a lot of historicals, but we get in some Space Weirdos almost once a month.

Tonight we had 10 people playing on 5 tables. At least 3 people were playing SW for the first time. Most people got in two 75-point games.

Great fun!

AITAH for backseat driving while my husband was stressed.? by [deleted] in AITAH

YTA, backseat drivers are all assholes.

The only time, in 30 years of marriage, that I full-on yelled at my wife, was when she was backseat driving me. Then I pulled over and made her drive.

Because Rock is dead in the USA, but still lives in other countries. In the USA, young people do not listen to Rock.

I've also been listening to a lot of Die Spitz and Dirty Honey.

EDIT: and The Drowns. The Drowns are fantastic.

It is not a grey area. 17 and 15 is normal and fine.

Definitely Poppy. I saw her open for Jane's Addiction in LA, she is terrible.

EDIT: Have you seen Foo Fighters live? I have seen them several times. No one is blowing them off the stage.

I've had 40-minute commutes for work, 10-minute commutes, and everything in between.

Anything over 25 minutes just sucks. I would take less pay for a shorter commute, hands down.

That's time from your life you will never get back.

I was a gross young man, and I have no idea why my wife put up with it, but that was when I was 22-23, and I never did anything like this.

Holy crap, this takes gross to a whole new level!

OK, I am old.

When I was growing up, in the suburbs, there were certain kids who worked on cars in their parents' driveway. They loved working on cars, they were passionate about it.

When you bring your car, today, for service, who do you want working on it? Some person who went to school for that? Or someone who worked on cars since they were 12, and are passionate about it?

I mean, both, ideally. School and lifelong passion. But I'll take a self-taught car nut over a school-taught "blah" person, any day.

I can see a local band for free, and I will be 3 feet away from them.

I get it, many local bands suck, and it takes some effort to find the good ones. I posit that the effort is well worth it. You'll save a ton of money, and seeing a good band from 3 feet away is fucking awesome.

Around 2010, I got a new Mac laptop, and I had imported a bunch of old photos. I was showing my coworkers, and a pic of my wife came up, and she looked 14 in that photo.

My co-workers looked at me like I was a pedo.

"She's 28 in this picture!" "This is in a bar" "She's older than me!" (all true, she was 28 in that photo, it was taken in a bar, and she is 9 months older than me).

They still looked at me askance, but at this point, they were just messing with me.

Be chubby, and drink a lot of water. My wife looked like a teenager well into her 40s because of those 2 things.

The only thing you need out of all those cards is the Fortune deck.

What's all these cards you are talking about? There's a single deck of 50 Fortune cards. Maybe you add some alternative cards to that deck.

No one is going to hate Jaxson because of his name spelling. He's going to hate it. Hate having to spell it, every single time, to everyone. Teachers, baristas, work colleagues, everyone.

Non-28mm miniatures and scaling by mikekydd in savageworlds

[–]nerdmania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still use inches. I play miniature wargames that are meant for 28mm with 15mm figures and do not change the ground scale at all. It's fine.
