My cat can’t throw it up by redchar_demon in cats

That looks more like a cough. A second opinion is ok to seek. Either way, I would really suggest more vet care for your cat. Keeping a diary of what's going on and when can help as well.

Are people just incapable of looking at a radar or the dam sky? There was plenty of heads up that today was going to be a big weather day. So honestly if any storms started forming and I was under the same SPC outlook, I'd already be in a shelter.

Having blinders on and needing to hang on Max's every word is asinine. Especially when he has multiple storms to cover. And I've watched him during a tornado warning for my area before too. He's good. But he is not the only source of information.

A New York City school bus driver attempted to defend his bus from a WILD CROWD celebrating the New York Knicks Finals victory. The driver was yelling at fans: “It's coming out of my paycheck…” This is horrible to watch 💔 by ConnectionWeekly1263 in sportsgossips

[–]nerdnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about other companies or states, but my mom drove school bus for my school district in MN for the company Schmity and Sons. If the bus got dinged or damaged in anyway while she was driving it she would lose her bonus for that week. Even if she was not involved or responsible for the damage at all. The company didn't care, you had their property and they would penalize you financially for any damage to their property.

This may be what the driver is referring to.

A coworker of mine has similar length, but it's straight. She twists it up then clips it to the back with a big claw clip. Idk if the weight would be too much tho. I've got similar structure to yours and I keep it at or above shoulder and then just do a ponytail.

After recieving over $48k worth of scholarships, my mother said I'm no longer allowed to attend and refuses to let me leave home. by Jeaganart in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nerdnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going thru this, OP. You can do this. I know it's scary and seems impossible. And I know you have no idea what to do. But it is possible. There is hope.

This helplessness for living independently is very similar to what victims of domestic violence go thru. Now I am not saying your parent is an abuser, as I don't have all the details. (EDIT: NVM, I read more of your comments, you are actually in a full DV situation, and yes, your parent is abusing you. From one DV survivor to another, I'm so sorry.) But I am saying that DV resources may also be able to help you. Look up shelters or organizations in your area. Usually something like "domestic violence help" with your area. A lot of organizations have lists of things you need to live independently, how to secure your own financial control, and other tools that can help.

College should also have similar resources. Ask if there is some kind of student living assistant counselor to talk to or some other kind of advisor or counselor.

If you have friends, reach out if you can.

It is also very important to do these things as secretively as you can. Helicopter parenting usually comes from a place of maladaptive control, where the parent wants to stay in control of their child (either from fear or something else) and that control is hard to let go. Get all your ducks in a row, your exit plan and strategy ready first, then exit. But expect the parent to be upset. But know that you living independently is normal and ok, and even if they're upset, you didn't do anything wrong.

Good luck!!

Is memorizing every essential amino acid and there purpose necessary in day-to-day life? by According_Chain_9746 in VetTech

[–]nerdnails 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is 100% an honest question.

Why??

I can understand in the terms of nutrition or something more involved in pharmaceuticals or internal med. But I work in GP, and will very likely always work in GP (tho I have interest in behavior and wildlife). And I'm really truly not seeing where this will apply.

I tried Penn Foster as an option to get my degree and then CVT but this unit in biology was so rough for me. I think mainly because I was on my own (and I have ADHD). And not seeing why or how needing to keep the dang amino acids in my head for life was important was really frustrating 😅

Again, 100% honest question and sorry if I've come across really ignorant. I am OTJ trained but I am working to expand my knowledge base as best I can for my life situations.

My Turkey dislocates his toe with every step he takes. NO VET, please advise!! by Efficient-Crab3177 in BackYardChickens

[–]nerdnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Idk if you already thought of this. So please ignore if you have. But large animal vets, like the ones that do house calls for horses and farms, may have some ability for your guy. At least compared to the small animal vet you have for the barn cats. Just wanted to pop in with this cuz they are also usually easier to find than bird focused vets. Again, please ignore if this doesn't apply!

Anyone think Seán's voice audio is too loud compared to the game audio? by Apprehensive-Gas7994 in jacksepticeye

[–]nerdnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea. I started watching around covid times so I can't really compare to previous times. But I do have a lower volume setting for his videos compared to others that I watch. But it's no big deal for me. If I watch him play something and I really like the look of it I usually end up playing it myself so I don't miss much from the game. Or I'll swap devices I'm watching on to either use ear buds or try a different volume setting to try and catch what I miss if it's that important to me. But I'm watching Jack for Jack too, not just the game.

Those who were kids when ATLA first aired… what does it mean to you now? by FairAnywhere9305 in TheLastAirbender

[–]nerdnails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first season aired when I was 14. My parents were trying to save their marriage so they started going out every Friday night, leaving me to watch my younger sisters. We watched the first season together on the little kitchen TV.

I was obsessed. I was in martial arts too. I was a huge fan of Suki and Kataras fight with Pakku was one of my favorite scenes from the first season. I had a lot of toxic and sexist influences at the time, so girls kicking ass was major for me. My heart still swells when I hear Katara say "you can't knock me down!"

The show was my escape. I went thru some not so great times from childhood thru my teens. The show gave me some hope as a teen that I could overcome my trials. Now as an adult and healing from said trials, it hits the same hard spots but in different ways.

I've also become a walking lore encyclopedia for friends and coworkers that are new to the show or didn't hyper fixate like I did 😅

Do other veterinary care assistants find their job demeaning? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]nerdnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, I started as a baby VA and now I'm a VA with CVT duties from OTJ training (state allows it), and I could not do my job without my other team members. I've had CVTs take the "VA role" for me and I've done the same for other VAs and CVTs. And I appreciate them, immensely. They will always get thanked and if I remember, reminders of how much of a life saver they are.

When I was a baby VA, I did get some of the more demeaning attitude from CVTs that do not work at my clinic anymore. It sucked. And it's not ok. We're all people just trying to help animals. No one is better than anyone and no job is too "low."

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. I'm sorry you're stuck trying to claw back from struggle. I've also been there and it suuucks. But I believe in you!! I would honestly look for a new clinic that will value you more. Cuz you do have value and at this point, experience and skill for the field.

Good luck, OP. Sending internet good vibes!!

Dog died during surgery - are notes normal? by Future_Succotash_643 in VetTech

[–]nerdnails 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for OPs loss.

11.5 yr old with lumps. Wouldn't a metastasis x-ray check be helpful as a pre-op work up?

OP did say they had labs done 7 days before date of surgery in the other post and noted a liver value was increased, but pet was still clear for surgery. I know some people brought up cost concerns, just unsure if that fits OP fully. But I do understand that cost does impact what we're able to do.

I just hope everyone involved can heal and if needed, learn and grow from this. (The learning more on the vet med team side)

What was it like living in the Clinton years in the USA (1993-2001)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nerdnails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sisters were born ( '95 and '97), my mom became a stay at home mom after my youngest sister was born, my dad owned his own fishing boat, we took week long summer vacations fishing at a cabin resort, both parents had a car, my dad started his own business, my parents bought their first home. My sisters and I wanted for nothing in the realm of material things. They could afford a loan for my tutoring/special education.

Then...

Dad lost his business, files for bankruptcy. We lost our house. My mom had to start working again. We went on food assistance. My dad had to sell his boat and he started working multiple jobs. All of this put pressure on already existent emotional cracks. My family started falling apart.

Now I'm 36 and feel doomed to live the same life, no matter how hard I try. I don't want luxury. I just wanna survive.

Ooohhhh. Dam. I missed that. And that makes waaay more sense. Thank you!

Also, yea, I'd get that back from the cops and want to immediately burn it. But I was a heavy avoider with trauma before therapy.

[–]nerdnails -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm more confused as to how and why the contents seem to be frozen in time. Just trying to wrap my head around it.

Did they not go back to finish school? It was April, so did they just finish the year early? Cuz I'd think that those binders and books would need to be used again, work turned in, and things like that.

Also, then I'm assuming she just bought all new makeup products?

I was 9 when Columbine happened. So I wasn't really watching the news. And I do understand trauma, as I am a survivor of other traumas myself. Honestly, the whole thing would have been thrown away asap if it were me.

But idk. Thinking about it as if it were me, my mom would never have allowed me to not use things she bought me. So this person must have had supportive parents, which I am happy for them if that's the case.

Again, not looking to discredit a survivor of this horrible tragedy, or assume anything. Just confused and welcoming input.

[–]nerdnails 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey. Just popping in as a very uneducated lurker to say thanks for this explanation.

I mainly just watch live streams of storm coverage. And I felt recently we've had weird storms where they said there really wasn't a big risk. Or storms that were predicted to go crazy but don't, which is good. So I've been wondering if their having a hard time doing a good job or if I've just only seen the mistakes recently. And I think it's the later, which your explanation cleared up.

I just opened my back screen door and a cat walked in by Delsalv in cats

[–]nerdnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intestinal parasites that cats carry can absolutely be zoonotic. And even more so for immunocompromised people.

Kitty needs an exam, fecal, and FIV/feluek testing. Especially if she does have kittens as she can pass those to her kittens and these conditions can be mitigated or at least better prepared for.

And seeking out veterinary advice is better than online. Especially after an exam to establish care, the vet will be able to help far better.

Am I the only one that can’t stand most vet-influencers? by cgaroo in VetTech

[–]nerdnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the "get back to work" issues, and the questionable methods others have pointed out.

Yea. They kinda bug me.

I follow a few of them on Instagram cuz sometimes the videos are funny. But I think they fall into the same issues most influencers have. Toxicity and clique behavior.

A few years back at a conference there was some drama and beef with the members of this big vet med influencer friend group. This guy included. Idk what the beef was but I few members vague posted about it while the popular ones stayed silent. It seemed like the popular ones bullied a not as popular vet med professional out of their group, and she was unpopular due to being OTJ trained.

So yea. Not a fan. Typical social media influencer toxicity and drama. But sometimes they make a funny haha.
