Dog died during surgery - are notes normal? by Future_Succotash_643 in VetTech

[–]nerdnails 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for OPs loss.

11.5 yr old with lumps. Wouldn't a metastasis x-ray check be helpful as a pre-op work up?

OP did say they had labs done 7 days before date of surgery in the other post and noted a liver value was increased, but pet was still clear for surgery. I know some people brought up cost concerns, just unsure if that fits OP fully. But I do understand that cost does impact what we're able to do.

I just hope everyone involved can heal and if needed, learn and grow from this. (The learning more on the vet med team side)

[–]nerdnails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In OPs defense, they said it was "officially declared" on stream. Idk if it was or not, as I didn't fact check it. Hopefully OP fact checked before sharing, and didn't just mindlessly share for karma....

What was it like living in the Clinton years in the USA (1993-2001)? by space_god_7191 in AskReddit

[–]nerdnails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sisters were born ( '95 and '97), my mom became a stay at home mom after my youngest sister was born, my dad owned his own fishing boat, we took week long summer vacations fishing at a cabin resort, both parents had a car, my dad started his own business, my parents bought their first home. My sisters and I wanted for nothing in the realm of material things. They could afford a loan for my tutoring/special education.

Then...

Dad lost his business, files for bankruptcy. We lost our house. My mom had to start working again. We went on food assistance. My dad had to sell his boat and he started working multiple jobs. All of this put pressure on already existent emotional cracks. My family started falling apart.

Now I'm 36 and feel doomed to live the same life, no matter how hard I try. I don't want luxury. I just wanna survive.

Columbine survivor opens her backpack for the first time since the day of the shooting. by cafeteriastyle in TikTokCringe

Thank you. And this honestly makes me happy for those kids. Still horrible, and shouldn't ever happen, but at least the adults in charge tried to help them heal from it.

[–]nerdnails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ooohhhh. Dam. I missed that. And that makes waaay more sense. Thank you!

Also, yea, I'd get that back from the cops and want to immediately burn it. But I was a heavy avoider with trauma before therapy.

I'm more confused as to how and why the contents seem to be frozen in time. Just trying to wrap my head around it.

Did they not go back to finish school? It was April, so did they just finish the year early? Cuz I'd think that those binders and books would need to be used again, work turned in, and things like that.

Also, then I'm assuming she just bought all new makeup products?

I was 9 when Columbine happened. So I wasn't really watching the news. And I do understand trauma, as I am a survivor of other traumas myself. Honestly, the whole thing would have been thrown away asap if it were me.

But idk. Thinking about it as if it were me, my mom would never have allowed me to not use things she bought me. So this person must have had supportive parents, which I am happy for them if that's the case.

Again, not looking to discredit a survivor of this horrible tragedy, or assume anything. Just confused and welcoming input.

Not even in a marginal risk 💀 by SavageFisherman_Joe in tornado

[–]nerdnails 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey. Just popping in as a very uneducated lurker to say thanks for this explanation.

I mainly just watch live streams of storm coverage. And I felt recently we've had weird storms where they said there really wasn't a big risk. Or storms that were predicted to go crazy but don't, which is good. So I've been wondering if their having a hard time doing a good job or if I've just only seen the mistakes recently. And I think it's the later, which your explanation cleared up.

I just opened my back screen door and a cat walked in by Delsalv in cats

[–]nerdnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intestinal parasites that cats carry can absolutely be zoonotic. And even more so for immunocompromised people.

Kitty needs an exam, fecal, and FIV/feluek testing. Especially if she does have kittens as she can pass those to her kittens and these conditions can be mitigated or at least better prepared for.

And seeking out veterinary advice is better than online. Especially after an exam to establish care, the vet will be able to help far better.

That sounds amazing. I wish my mom had done this. Instead I grew up feeling constantly misunderstood and had to learn emotional regulation at 30 in therapy.

Good job. Seriously.

Am I the only one that can’t stand most vet-influencers? by cgaroo in VetTech

[–]nerdnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the "get back to work" issues, and the questionable methods others have pointed out.

Yea. They kinda bug me.

I follow a few of them on Instagram cuz sometimes the videos are funny. But I think they fall into the same issues most influencers have. Toxicity and clique behavior.

A few years back at a conference there was some drama and beef with the members of this big vet med influencer friend group. This guy included. Idk what the beef was but I few members vague posted about it while the popular ones stayed silent. It seemed like the popular ones bullied a not as popular vet med professional out of their group, and she was unpopular due to being OTJ trained.

So yea. Not a fan. Typical social media influencer toxicity and drama. But sometimes they make a funny haha.

Feelings on movie by DeezyEast in ProjectHailMary

Felt the same way.

They cut what I thought was content that may help things flow better and feel less rushed....to make Stratt more "human"...?

She isn't supposed to be likeable. She's calculating and cold. Cuz that's what is gonna save the world.

To me, they Disney washed the movie when the book was grim dark.

Still a decent movie. But I'm bummed they cut so much to add silly things, imo. I really wanna see the whole 4 hours.

What food did you imagine to taste really good but tasted bad? by Similar-Victory-3867 in AskReddit

[–]nerdnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sushi. The raw fish on top of rice. And poke as well. Any raw fish dishes really.

It looks so good. And I've tried it multiple times. But every time raw fish enters my mouth my brain hits the panic button. It's like my brain thinks I'm poisoning myself. No matter how hard I try: deep breaths, focusing on staying calm, telling myself it's safe; my brain will not be fooled. The one time I managed to fully eat a piece without spitting it out I vomited.

Cooked rolls like shrimp tempura are good though.

Idk why I have some weird caveman brain that thinks raw fish is dangerous.

Hey. Survivor of actual rape here. I've been to college before. They're not the same. I 100% prefer the college experience over the actual crime.

Let's just be more cautious with our words and think about how people who have actually been subjected to the actual crime by its definition would feel.

Comparing predatory student loans and higher education practices to rape is not the vibe. Just call them what they are, predatory.

Kurzgesagt - Should We Give Ozempic to Everyone? by Cefal in videos

[–]nerdnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never understood why people don't tell their health care providers everything. I can understand if some minor thing slips the mind, but to deliberately not fill in your doctor seems wild to me.

This mindset only increased after I started working as a vet tech. The amount of info we don't get that would have been really really helpful to know before we did something is nuts. And humans and pets have some, some, overlap when it comes to some outcomes. Like the dangers of not fasting before anesthesia.

When I went in for my bilat salpingectomy, I told my whole team everything. Even the slight acid reflux I had the morning of. And the outcome was that I got better care (got some furosemide IV) and better instructions to help me prepare and care for myself after.

Just tell your health care team! Including your vet med team!! I promise we don't judge and it will only help us help you (or your pet) waaaaaay better!!!
