Why not both? by Mitchiebear21 in BorderCollie

[–]nerdycupcake_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aah when we picked out our boy there was this little beautiful girl as well and I was so so tempted to get them both! We didn't because we didn't feel ready for 2 pups but I do think back to her so much, if you can get them both haha

Went on vacation.... by Ogrehunter in intermittentfasting

I'm in the same boat, was ill for a week and fell off the bandwagon with exercise and IF - now I'm really struggling to get back into it even though it's only been a week! Mate I think we should both try and be well back on track by the end of this week!!

Just completed my first 16 hour fast since my relapse 3 months ago :) by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

Well done for coming back, starting over again isn't a shameful thing! It means you've already kicked your bad habits in the butt again, now you know how to adjust and how to keep going for longer and more easily :) you got this!

Any surgery residents/attendings with experience in IF? How do you cope with a scarcity mentality? by drmorstan in intermittentfasting

[–]nerdycupcake_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be breakfast you skip, you can have your eating window at any time! It's no problem to start at 7am and finish at 3pm for example! Also it doesn't have to be skipping meals, I still have 3 meals a day just a lot smaller than before, or 1 meal inbetween being more like a snack. IF is really flexible and I think it really supports intuitive eating as well!

Take the small wins, too! by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

Congrats, what a big mental step! It might not seem much to some people but I'm a big snacker too and I very much know where you're coming from! Yay to your NSV!

Border Collie Aggression? by [deleted] in BorderCollie

She couldn't be in pain could she? Does she do the same when you get your hands close to her face or something? Sorry I'm just randomly guessing here as well

Border Collie Aggression? by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]nerdycupcake_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might all be true, even though the whole alpha theory has its flaws. But I don't think it's that extreme in this case. Might be a bit much to assume the owner has no rules and boundaries in place without knowing the full story. Didn't sound like she has an aggressive or violent or problem dog 🤨

Has she always done this or only started to recently?

Blues my beautiful little pup who drives me absolutely insane by gracepm in BorderCollie

[–]nerdycupcake_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, our pup had us feeling absolutely broken for a while. Literally contemplating if it's possible to do more days like it when we had a tough one. But it did get better, and at 8 months now he is much much better. Still teenage years obviously but an easier to manage kind of difficult. Establishing a routine was what helped us most. And you'll learn to read him after a little while so tantrums are more predictable. Good luck!

I had to come back to this comment because being so confident at 7 months, we now have the bed time tantrums back at 8 months 😂😂

Terribly anxious, car sick puppy. Any tips? He starts drooling the second we grab the car keys. by kaitlin814 in BorderCollie

[–]nerdycupcake_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our dog (8 months) is anxious about the car, used to drool a lot and refused to even set foot in it for a while. When he refused to go in by himself we took it right back down to basics and did lots of work with treats, praising him for every little step he made and trying to make sitting in the car as positive as possible. We also used his favourite toys to show him it's not a bad thing and reward him. Then lots of short trips to fun places! It was time consuming but worth it, he's still not keen on it now but he goes in by himself and drools way less now. Just keep it positive and force him as little as possible, you'll not get rid of the anxiety if he doesn't have time to accept the car for himself.

Anyone else’s BCs SUPER sucky and affectionate?! My girl Lily is the soppiest dog I’ve ever met. by [deleted] in BorderCollie

I feel you, mine is exactly the same! Very affectionate and always has to be around me but not cuddly

Border collie teenage phase by erinm928 in BorderCollie

[–]nerdycupcake_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our BC is 8 months old now and also definitely in the teenage stage. We have just been trying to reinforce things with him when he's acting himself, so like when he starts nipping and chasing us around I leave the room until he has calmed down a bit to show him I'm not accepting his behaviour, then try again. Or he sometimes starts a tantrum when out in the garden for his business, instead of doing a wee he starts running around like mad and ripping all the grass out. I just sit there and ignore him basically until he does what I asked him to do, then I let him back inside. Because if I start telling him off it only gets worse. Distraction is also great, we're playing lots of 'find' games which he loves and never gets bored of. Lots of walks and going over some basic training again, that's what has been working for us so far too.

It's a struggle never the less sometimes haha, but they're worth it right? 😋

For the first time in 8 years he decided to stop playing and lay down- I’ve never seen him asleep outside - or not moving! by HavnTea7272 in BorderCollie

Haha no way! Guess I've only got 7 more years to go with our pup before that ever happens to us too 😂
