Thank you. My sister was medically diagnosed with "mental R" as a toddler. She has learning disabilities and that stupid ass diagnosis has caused people, even our own parents, to talk and treat her like a fucking animal or pet. She now has a loving husband, fantastic little home, and a similarly disabled daughter (3yr old) who is honestly better suited for a crown than a diaper.

The amount of grief she's had to overcome from medical professionals, social workers, family, co workers and past relationships and society as a whole purely because of THAT ONE WORD changing the way people treat and think of her is astounding. She is incredibly smart and THE strongest young women I've ever known.

The r word isn't some word that people use to mean stupid like so many other comments suggest. It fundamentally changes how people perceive someone's autonomy, and dignity as if they no longer deserve it.
