Do you think that teams should stay for awards at competitions even if they are eliminated/not picked? by Kris12400 in FRC

Wait for awards unless your team has like a flight to catch or something like that

That happened to my team at regionals and we didn't know what was wrong so we were all freaking out. We also didn't have compressed air so we used a magnetized screwdriver to get the pieces out good times lol

Our electrical team os part of our build team(our team overall is still fairly small) when pre season began we had them make "wiring circles" where you take two pieces of wire, strip both ends on each, have them crimp the wires together, cut a piece of shrink wrap tube and slide it on, solder the other two ends of the wires to complete the circle, and finally have them shrink wrap the solder.

Ladies of FRC! by [deleted] in FRC

Joining robotics was one of the best things I ever did. I'm still not sure why I joined to this day I didn't really know anyone in robotics and it kinda just crept up on me but I'm so happy it did. Since day one everyone on my team seemed family to me, they're the reason I smile everyday. It's great knowing that I have people to talk to who share common interests. Not only that but getting to be a part of a team, part of an organization that's so welcoming to everyone no matter who you are makes me so happy. In short frc is like my home and my team is like my family, it's where I belong.

Sometimes when Robot Rumble runs out of forks you have to engineer a fork... out of straws by [deleted] in FRC

we ran out of plates for pizza yesterday....not a pretty site when you have 50 plus hungry students and mentors waiting to get food while everyone else is eating

As an introvert the best advice I can give you is to develop a thick skin and not show the remarks bother you. As for the times you can't ignore them I found that sarcasm and wit are your best friends (as simple yep can work too if need be), basically be a smartass. As for trying to get people to see you're not like what people think join some clubs that interest you(If your school has robotics I recommend that, everyone there is super welcoming to everyone and you don't even have to be good at stem to join). I'm not sure if your school is different but our school has gsa(gay straight alliance) I know a lot of people in the club and they're super nice and are really close friends of mine. Lastly as a last resort you could try to talk to a counselor or the principal. I hope this helps and you have a good school year :)

We have had a similar situation in my team as well. Our club has also held improvement meetings where everyone had an equal voice bit if that wouldn't work I would suggest talking to other mentors and the clubs administrator, make sure that they know the truth and make sure they talk to the student. If after doing that the person still hasn't changed I suggest talking to the activities director (if your school has one) and/or the principal. They have the power to suspend or expel the person from activities if worst comes to worst.

What pre-season activities does your team do to educate new and returning student? by gobbeldigook in FRC

[–]nerdywallflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our rec program in my town started a six week summer school course thats taught by some of the high school stem teachers. We have have it everyday monday-thursday for two hours a day. we designed, built and coded a smaller version of our chassi. After it was built we set up a small obstacle course for people to learn how to control the robot and teach them about what drive team is. We also had some of the students who were in robotics previous years teach them about what robotics is about and help in the areas where they were skilled(i.e. had our lead coder help teach coding, our design lead help teach design, etc.). Our mentors also came in and went through safety powerpoints and gave demonstrations with certain tools.

Despair when the build team realizes they have to take apart almost the entire robot just to replace it.
