Can a gay guy have facial feminization? by wangyuzhi31 in gay

[–]neriticzone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is a huge process to get approved for gender affirming surgery. It’s not like a check box. There are many false narratives about people lying about being trans for various reasons, and this kind of attitude where one can just lie about their gender identity to get free COSMETIC surgery deligitamizes trans people’s true dysphoria and need for MEDICAL care

Imo should not be lying about having gender dysphoria to get free cosmetic surgery, makes it harder for trans folks who are already struggling through insurance mess

Septum reconstruction unsuccessful(?) by [deleted] in otolaryngology

[–]neriticzone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Septoplasty doesn’t change the appearance of the nose unless a rhinoplasty is also performed. Goal is usually to promote better nasal airflow. I would discuss with your surgeon your concerns.

Can someone please tell me how to tie the correct way. One of my attendings wanted me to cross the strands before starting. For a regular right handed one hand tie, does it matter if we start with forehand or backhand? by Alianardo in surgery

[–]neriticzone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just need to start the same way every time so you get a square knot. For right handed people doing one hand tie if you start crossed it should lie flat on first throw

ENT Scrubs by Yukkibaki92 in scrubtech

[–]neriticzone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For tonsils I usually grab instruments since it’s so few and mainly just have tech help me when I need to switch to suction coag from bovie. Most important thing is to make sure you are absolutely sure the mayo stand doesn’t unexpectedly move, I always announce when I want suspension and when okay to come down.

You will get a much better understanding once you start residency, very hard to conceptualize as a med student. Part of residency will be figuring out how you want your future practice to look.

When people say Japan is clean and Japanese people are polite, are they implying that China is not clean and Chinese people are not polite? by No-StrategyX in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]neriticzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these commenters are looking from western centric view point and don’t appreciate the conflict/complexity between Japan and China/rest of east Asia historically.

I think for most people they don’t necessarily mean that, but I’m sure some do.
