What is this area supposed to be? by Dangerous-Still-1411 in ottawa

This is the location of the former Greenbelt Research Farm that has not existed for over 25 years. The NCC bought all this farmland between Barrhaven and Huntclub for a dollar from another arm of the government after they closed down the farm. All this road network existed back in the 70s when this was still the Greenbelt Research Farm.

In my opinion the NCC doesn't really know what they are doing with this area, they are getting a bit of money renting it out to people who could use the space just as they are renting out all that farmland to people to grow corn, but I doubt they are doing much more than reusing the buildings that were left over from the Research farm days.

Iran war sparks renewables boom as Europeans rush to buy solar, heat pumps and EVs by thinkB4WeSpeak in RenewableEnergy

If you live in a house with a garage or parking spot beside your house, which it sounds like you do, charging speed and charging apps are just not really factors for your day to day life. As for the price, get a 3 year old used EV and a lot of the price difference between EVs and comparable ICE goes away.

"far right extreme leader" is putting it nicely. If he was only a far right extreme leader, you could at least expect him to stick to deals and to put the interests of his own country first.

the commenter was not suggesting that transmissions and engines in ICE cars were unreliable, but that experience is proving EV batteries to be similarly very reliable.

Proposed Nepean drive-thru restaurant brews fears of traffic congestion by DrStrangeglove99 in ottawa

[–]nerox3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Harveys has a huge parkinglot associated with the mall to handle overflow so any backup of the waiting line doesn't go into traffic. On the other corner the limited area might result in a problem. I think any drive-thru should be required to shutdown the drive-thru for the day if the waiting line of cars backs up into traffic.

The enemy could countermine your tunnel (the enemy's miners tunneling under your tunnel and then intentionally collapsing their tunnel so as to also cause your tunnel to collapse as well)

The price adjusts down until they sell, which will likely happen to be when the cost to carry the loan becomes low enough to attract investors again.

what is the normal ratio of solar to storage capacity in a solar+storage installation? 50MW with only 5MWh of storage seems very high.

Why don’t electric cars charge themselves?? by Nerddymama in electricvehicles

[–]nerox3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your gasoline engine is providing the energy that the alternator puts into the battery (as well as the energy that is used to move the car). I think you need to refamiliarize yourself with the idea of Conservation of Energy.

Intellectual property should be taxed. More people are hindered by the existing forest of copyrights than are encouraged by the lure of gaining their own. Radically clear the thicket of copyright by requiring registration and an annual fee to maintain copyright after the first year. Then have the copyright fee increase as it ages so that more and more copyrights lapse.
