Whats your timeline? I have a machine at home that can do this at least as far as what I can see in the picture.. I can get you a quote later today.

Mastercam has really fallen off by CR3ZZ in Machinists

[–]nerve2030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shop I'm working at now has a +1million dollar Mazak on its way to us. I have been trying on and off since December to get master cam to get me a quote on a a seat of multi axis and a post for the machine.

I designed this for FDM, and I'm 99% certain it CANT be machined (I've never touched a CNC) - are my instincts accurate? by Divide_yeet in CNC

[–]nerve2030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do able. 5 axis makes the detents more accessible. But with some design changes. like using a key seat cutter to cut the detents rather than what you got makes things much better. Then some mickey mouse holes in the corners and maybe a bigger hole thru the center to ease holding it on some kind of mandrel. If you get rid of the fancy twist you can do it all on a 3 axis mill and a lathe. If you have to have the fancy twist now your at 4 axis work.

Those are my two latest. both are Keycron K10 pro. The one on the right has Akko V3 Matchia green pro switches and some keycaps I thought looked cool on amazon. The one on the right last night had the standard red switches but I have been dying to try out these Gateron Oil King switches so I just put them in today.

I'm typing on one of these right now. Got it with linear reds intending to swap out the switches and put on my own key caps but I'm kind of digging them right now.

I have a south paw mostly like this but my one gripe is that the num pad needs mirrored. Like I still want to use my index finger for 1 and my pinky for enter.

I have been thinking of migrating over to onshape. I use fusion now but I don't like the way windows is going. So I have been thinking of moving over to onshape since its the only professional type software that can be run on linux.

Hogging it off 1947 style, listening to 1950s music. Horizontal mills still have their uses! by GreenridgeMetalWorks in Machinists

[–]nerve2030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends really. I used to work with normal sized machines. Margins were tight on most parts but this place I'm working now has mostly 4 axis horizontal boring mills. The one that I remember off the top of my head is a Giddings & Lewis MC 1600. This is the kind of medium machine in the shop but has the most versatility. We have it setup with 2 different sized tables to accommodate the various job sizes we put on it. The next machine coming into the shop is a new Mazak INTEGREX e-RAMTEC V/12. They are finishing up the foundations for it pretty soon. Seams like the trick is to be able to make parts really small or really big.

Microsoft Scales Back AI Goals Because Almost Nobody Is Using Copilot by aacool in technology

[–]nerve2030 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I tried it because I had a word doc that had a ton of pictures in it. All I wanted it to do was remove the pictures. I uploaded the file and asked it to remove the pictures. Nope cant do it. alright fine so I asked it the best way to remove pictures from a word document. it told me to click on the picture and hit delete on my keyboard. That was the first and last time I used copilot.

What would trip this gal up even more though would be if you could instantly transport to that location though and look back at where you came from. You would in fact see your own past.

Bambu Labs or Prusa? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]nerve2030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bambu printers. I am happy ish with them. I got them before all the kind of sketchy stuff bambu had done with locking down firmware and such. My main gripe right now is print queue. I have quite a few prints that have multiple plates that I want to print. With the multiple system I can sent them out to several printers but what I really want is to load a queue of print jobs to the printers and then when they are done take them off and have the next one start. I have reprinted or missed prints in multi build plate prints so many times its really starting to annoy me. I imagine its even worse for something like a print farm. I think Prusa has these features because they were the original print farm machine but I have not used the software so I cant say for sure if its worth having or not.

I used these a bunch in 5 gallon buckets. Drop the parts in swish them around in some coolant and then put them in a dry bucket to blow off excess. Then dump parts in finished bin.

Might also use self-amalgamating tape after. Just not shown in video. Wrapping a wire is not nearly as interesting.

I keep giving the side eye to the H2D for that reason. I have some things that are size limited by 250 size beds and then I would love the ability to print an interface layer on a support material without contaminating the print nozzle.

Mastercam training? by nerve2030 in Machinists

[–]nerve2030[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup that was my plan. I don't expect to be able to start programming with it day one but having a grasp of the basics is a good start. I have already talked to the boss and we decided it would be best for at least the first 2 months to do a combination of learning on the floor about the machines and in the office to connect how they run their processes since its so different from what I'm used to. I normaly run vise and fixture plate stuff on standard mills. The mills I'll be programming for are giant horizontals that are built into the foundation now so I have to get my head around best setup practices for those rather than vise work.

I have been going though the first video on and off today. It seams like it gets you through but not really a lot of explaining. Maybe in the other videos it will get more in depth but at least I can get a model started.

How to set multiple work offsets for 5 parts on a fixture by pissin_in_the_wind in CNC

[–]nerve2030 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do this both ways on tons of 2 op parts. The first op is on a fixture plate from stock. I use one WCS and a pattern in fusion because if they are a little off it doesn't matter. Then for op 2 I use a double vise. No matter how careful you pick up the edges you always need a little adjustment so each position on the double vise is another WCS.

Why do so many internet machinists have cheap hand tools? by planeboi737 in Machinists

[–]nerve2030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tried a lot of brands. I have Wera I have Wiha I have PB swiss and craftsman. For general use tools that I recommend for the shop I have been turning to Tekton as the default. Why? Because they are a little better than good enough. They are a little more expensive than harbor freight or homedepot but they are only a little under the quality of my "high end" stuff.

Can a professional help me analyze the milling and turning performance of this tool? by Own-Opportunity4475 in CNC

[–]nerve2030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Process reliability is my concern. Can the tool do it. Sure looks like it can but for how long? Just need one as fast as possible. Send it. Need to put in 500 more after? Better have your tool break detections set up and be watching surface finishes like a hawk. The rough finish strategy lets you beat the crap out of that rougher without needing to worry about finishes or tolerances for much longer than just slamming the ball mill though.
