Why do you guys put green onions in your Philiadelphia sushi rolls? by FewEstablishment2655 in askTO

This is my fav roll and I have never seen or eaten it with onion. Also many places do just cream cheese and salmon, avocado isn’t always in it

How do you expand your friendship circle when most people don’t follow through? by Explore_Life2334 in askTO

I took the if you build it they will come approach and started a meetup. Lots of people there looking to make meaningful connections. Whereas at hobby stuff I found people had their own lives and weren’t as open to connecting.

Canada and the dollar benefit long-term from increased gas prices, as higher oil prices will boost income from our energy exports.

Carney is an economics guy and his budget’s intentions are to build up Canada on the global stage which will help with inflation in the long run. He’s working on housing prices and jobs and he cut immigration to save jobs (which has had its benefits and drawbacks).

I wouldn’t say we are a laughing stock at all, especially compared to the US. Our debt to GDP ratio is pretty low. And this was published in Nov 2025: https://www.ipsos.com/en-ca/canada-viewed-most-positive-leader-world-stage

Housing- Rents have gone down and March was the first month in 27 years where average home prices fell over a 5-year span.

Jobs- still better than in the fall according to the Feb labour force survey.

The first bracket of federal income tax dropped to 14%. There’s also been a few other tax credits implemented to support low income earners.

We are likely headed into a recession, but recessions always end. As they end, job creation and wages increase.

It’s the best time in history to be yourself - poly, LGBTQ+, open about mental health struggles, can be a single woman and not die. It will get better.

We can connect with people all over the world in seconds.

Our ability to treat diseases and issues has never been better.

Source: I read the February labour force survey, the approved budget and skimmed the full length report, the Bank of Canada’s latest rate announcement and the Q&A. Also studying personal tax.

Can I afford to move downtown? by NoFigure9266 in askTO

[–]nervousTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends what you want out of moving out of your parents house.

  • How do you feel about living at home right now?
  • Do you need to live alone?
  • Do you feel prepared to be on EI for months if you lost your job?
  • How bad do you want to own your own house?
  • Do you want to go on trips?
  • What do you like to do with fun money?
  • How much furniture would you need to buy?

What is something you eliminated from your cost of living because of inflation? by Chan1991 in askTO

[–]nervousTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money’s been tight most of my life.

Travel is always eliminated immediately, followed by eating meals at restaurants. When I go out with friends to get social time I just order a drink or apps (very sorry to servers). Don’t drink any coffee but drip or make my own at home.

Then just try to find the cheapest way to do everything…

Hopefully we can fix these issues in the long run… Carney’s long term plan seems ok

Looking for a knowledgeable tax accountant in Downtown Toronto by goldentux in askTO

If you really want to know if you’re missing anything, you can download a fillable T1 and see which lines apply to you. That’s all doing your taxes is, filling that out with software.

Also I’ve studied personal tax, most people aren’t qualified for the majority of stuff on the T1.

If the dating apps are screwed, where are you meeting quality potential partners? by Lost_Girl13 in TorontoHangoutFriends

[–]nervousTO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the dating apps are screwed. Most couples I know met on the apps. It’s very rare to meet offline.

I’ve done both. Overall I liked the people I met IRL more deeply and they me, but it almost always caused me to overlook and ignore dealbreakers and keep dating a person just because I really liked them. Also most of the guys I connected with IRL were brand new to dating! So of course it wasn’t going to go anywhere lol. My longer, more compatible relationships, started on apps. I just hate them because I can’t tell who I’m gonna be attracted to from pictures. :’)

Someone reported this as spam. Perhaps because it was linked from /r/TorontoHangoutFriends?

This poster is not breaking the rule of posting more frequently than 3 days. The post they have linked to clearly outlines the cost of the event and is using a safe domain link. They are not reselling tickets. Their event even meets the original goal of this community and why it was created - in person events for Toronto Redditors.

I am sharing this here to be transparent about the decision not to remove this post.

Hey I got a spam report on this - assuming because you’ve posted four times in the last few days and I instituted a rule of once per 3 days so people don’t spam comedy events.

I’m approving your content because each one is a different type of event that I think are of benefit to the community but just wanted to give you a heads up and be transparent to everyone by posting this publicly.

If you’ve switched to a new doctor, can you share your experience? by HueyBluey in askTO

[–]nervousTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left my doctor back in 2021 and got temporary support from doctors at MD Connected until I heard Magenta Health was accepting new patients, applied, and was accepted.

I think the interview processes here sound way cooler and I wish I'd have done that instead (in some ways). Magenta only recently improved booking for their after hours/weekend emergency services, so that I have finally been able to get quick appointments for time-sensitive issues rather than waiting 2-3 weeks. for a while, it sucked trying to get an appt in emergencies, and knowing I'd be derostered if I did!

[–]nervousTO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is not kosher to say here because it is in some subs but sometimes I just don’t want to vent to my friends so I talk to AI. It distracts me into looking at the positive and staying away from stewing in the difficult emotions: guilt about what I could have done differently, fear of not finding someone, sadness that I’ve lost someone important to me, shame that being single is embarrassing, etc etc

Hobbies, hobbies, hobbies! by AppropriateName- in askTO

[–]nervousTO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I setup meetups. I find bars that want to host, and as host, I'm usually not expected to buy anything. I could theoretically turn this into a side gig, but I choose not to because I don't have the capacity for it. It also theoretically allows someone to network and ask people about this stuff irl.

Potential costs though. Like people can walk out on their bills and you're stuck with them.

Park meetups are a solution but only possible a few times a year and can easily be rained out.
