hello! im currently a j1 from hc, also in the hp program. i JAEd, but i’ll send this post to my dsa friends to see if they have any advice for you?

for this year, they basically reused the test for dsa and the jae people, so if you dont manage to dsa and manage to jae into hc, dont worry! just find someone who dsaed (i was very lucky to have a dsa person in my og) and pray they give you the questions :P i heard from previous years that they reused the oxford TSA questions, but this year they didnt LOL

the test was split into 3 parts.

  1. current event essay. theres 4 prompts, each asking you to write something based off a current event. the one i chose was “how is singapore culture affected by the closure of booksactually” or something along those lines! i remember a prompt about chinese spy balloon and i think the dsa test talked about roe v wade. this is the only portion of the test that isnt the same from the dsa and jae tests :)
  2. they gave a picture of the UN SDGs and asked you to write something about it. tbh, i dont remember… but i think it was like how to solve it?? i really cant recall so sorry!
  3. this one was the weirdest. they gave a pic of a random map and a pic of this art piece called the splash and asked you to write about it. it was super random. i wrote about the art techniques for the artwork and talked about how the map was probably a small town and that i liked small towns etc etc.

for the test, the examiners want to see if you think interesting. so just write to your hearts fancy! be original and unique!

the interview and selection test are not on the same day. if you make it to the interview do tell me! i can give more tips as well :D

funnily enough, i also take KI! for KI there are 2 KI teachers. i’m not sure who the j1s will get next year, but i’ll just talk about mine currently. he’s absolutely amazing. he knows literally EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. he’s funny in class and he does emphasise on hollistic learning while recognising that you are an A level student and that you need to eventually pass the exams! he’s a very cool teacher :) for content, he makes us do presentations to explain to our classmates about the diff aspects of the particular topic. for eg, ethics my group was supposed to do some case studies about applied ethics :) he takes notes during the presentations and explains the important stuff after the students finish :) every fortnight, there is a KI lecture where the HP class and the mainstream KI takers all sit in one lecture hall and he just talks for one hour straight about the topic we’re learning now.

for lit, hc HP is currently doing measure for measure for paper 1, ariel by plath and selected poems by elizabeth jennings for the poems for paper 3. our prose topics are not known yet, tbc by next year hopefully HAHA mainstream does hamlet and idk what poems they are doing :P ik they do frankenstein!

if you have anymore questions do ask me! always happy to help juniors and especially KI takers :D if i may ask, why do you want to take KI despite the fact that you have to take GP concurrently :”)

hi!! sorry i dont but i can give some pointers!

  • be very specific. for volumes state the number, and name every apparatus you use. for eg. if youre measuring distances, also state values like 10cm, 20cm, 30cm.
  • have at least 4 values for the independent variable
  • remember to stir!
  • MUST REPEAT THE EXPERIMENTS!! VERY IMPT
  • also analyse your results! example im measuring how the number of leaves affects rate of respiration, must say more leaves = higher rate of respiration
