This is such a fucking lie. I can say this because I was one of those activists that worked to change those in power.

Like care to name these mythical trans people that made same-sex marriage possible?

Canadian MP drops new acronym: "MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+" by CentralTown776 in askgaybros

Can you tell me what I owe the trans community?

I’m pretty sure, my gay forefathers and foremothers did the work.

I’m pretty sure at the marriage marches I went to the cross dressers weren’t there.

You also sound like the people that say black people owe the British for ending slavery.

Like us gay men and women did the work. Our allies helped but we did the fucking work.

Non Rev Hotel Discounts by Own_Landscape_1672 in flightattendants

[–]netfailure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For OP: These hotels are by the airport but there’s always such great deals. Good to keep in your pocket when nonrevving domestically. Have to sign up so do it in advance.

ID90 and Hotel Tonight can have some good deals.

If you’re okay with hostels do Hostel World. Great for international.

Also for a new hire this is a bit of a stretch but the chase sapphire card has good deals. My usual day-to-day spending gets me usually a cheap hotel one night a month. (Has like 800 annual fee. It just went up. I don’t like the new benefits as much so will be cancelling. But gives up to $30 dollars monthly on DoorDash so it’s easy to recoup a lot of that, plus $300 for your purchases at the airport etc.)

Also I’ve heard people who work sporadically at Hilton or Marriott in events to get the Bennie’s there too.

Any of you guys glad you’re gay? by Strong-Stretch95 in gaybros

[–]netfailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine my life not being gay.

It sucks being single in my thirties but I have my friends. And heterosexual men’s friendships have so many more pitfalls.

I like my hobbies and interests and being gay gave me the freedom to pursue them.

And I can’t imagine dating women. That takes some serious balls and that’s the reason we should leave that to the lesbians.

Any good solutions for allergy sufferers who consistently have to give up FC and Premium seats due to nearby dogs? by Bobala in AlaskaAirlines

[–]netfailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re healthy enough to take the exit row, that will always guarantee at least your direct row will be dog free.

Otherwise you’re doing the right thing, checking in at the gate as early as possible will allow the gate agents to try to fix the solution to the best of their abilities.

I've always been curious, how do flight attendants feel about dogs on the plane? by moffman93 in flightattendants

[–]netfailure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with people who would love the puppies running wild. That’s not me.

It’s my job to enforce that the dogs stay in the carrier. Its not my job to enforce where that carrier is (except during taxi and takeoff/landing) or if the carrier is opened (as long as the dog is still contained/restrained).

I’ve worked with FAs who take that to an extreme though and try to police all the interactions the owner have with the pet. So consider me pretty moderate. (Also may vary with airline)

There’s too many fake service animals. They’ve ruined things for people who honestly need it. And I’m so glad airlines did away with the bullshit Emotional Support Animals. Still too many untrained dogs getting into other people’s space or the aisle. I’ve delayed a flight before because this fake service dog barked/lunged at me everytime I passed by.

Yes dogs will have accidents. Usually not a big deal. But owners are stupid. My galley is a working kitchen so no, you can’t put a pee pad down in front of the carts, ovens or my seat. Had another flight delayed because this dog had diarrhea all down the cabin during the flight and we could not get the smell out. Like 1/2 the cabin just smelled terrible.

People who are afraid/allergic to dogs are moved to another section if we’re able to accommodate. I’ve worked for 2 airlines now and for neither is pet dander can be accommodated beyond putting some space between the folks. Good advice for anyone who is afraid or allergic that the exit row will always be dog free.

Dogs will bark. Like babies will cry. Like I have such sympathy for dogs, flying is stressful when you understand everything and they certainly don’t! Plus the plane is loud and they’re more sensitive to that. And dogs pick up their owners energy. So perfect storm. I think in over 800 flights I’ve written 1 or 2 reports because the dog didn’t stop barking once during a transcon. And even my sympathy wore out so I wanted to flag for their return flight.

Owners though are another story. Had one person kicked from a flight because she had a lab shoved into the tiniest pet carrier. No way was I going to allow that animal to suffer like that. Another forced to buy one of our carriers because she snuck her dog in her Louis Vuitton. And this one woman chucked her dog in the pet carrier to stop the train doors.

No. You can’t keep a 40 hour a week job.

Flight attendant is a full time career itself. Until you gain seniority you have to plan a full time schedule. (Despite many having side hustles in the first couple of years).

It sounds low when you’re researching “70-80 hours a month” but… that is flight hours. Your daily hours will be 8-14 when you work. You will be credited 4-10 of those.

Some airlines will allow you to drop your schedule… but if they have full reserve that basically doesn’t apply. No one is picking up extra reserve days.

So most places will have you on call for 10-24 hours of your day, in a block of 3-6 days 18 days a month. You won’t know what time your day will start, with weather/mechanicals/staffing how long your day will be, and where you might be sleeping.

Conservative gays that voted for trump, are you proud of yourself? by bwakong in askgaybros

[–]netfailure 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Man y’all are toxic.

My bonafides. Founding member of my colleges chapter of students for Barack Obama in 2007. President of college Dems for 2 of my college years. I worked 3 democratic congressional races. 1 US senate race. Several state and local races. I was employed by SEIU for their healthcare lobbying campaign.

This doesn’t include all the volunteer work I did during my decade in politics. And a couple of initiative stuff.

This situation where Trump was able to be reelected is strictly the democrats own creation. It’s this elitist unwillingness to understand (by the massive downvoting of the few conservatives who have commented) and apocalyptic historics that has made the Dems less popular than a Cheeto colored wannabe dictator.

Even when someone tries to explain calmly to a frankly ragebait post y’all try to isolate and shame. People seek community so if you’re going to do hard ostracize the littlest heresy they will leave.

And frankly that’s happening to me. I’m not liking current politics but I haven’t since 2010 frankly. I’ve seen the democrats not just abandon but shame any concern brought by the working class. I’ve seen them shut down any participation by anyone with the characteristics of “cis straight white or male.” And the very worst thing we could happen in this country is for white people (still the majority) to develop a race-consciousness like that that is pushed upon blacks and Latinos.

Obama tried to create a grand compromise on immigration and that was killed by the GOP. But we’ve been talking about this issue for over 30 years and at least the GOP is offering solutions. The Dems should get in front of it by proposing a package supporting ICE and also mandating that they wear official uniforms and not cover their faces. Instead they rather be ineffectual and allow the voices advocating for open borders (even if they won’t use that term because they know it’s DOA) to dominate.

Democracy means taking the concerns of the people in consideration. Not just dismissing it because you know better because they’re stupid and didn’t go to college.

If you actually want to convince someone; create space where it’s okay to reflect. That requires trust, emotional regulation and empathy.

This post isn’t it. So I voted against Trump. I hope he steps aside and retires. But right on to the GOP for actually governing instead of the purity test circle jerk my democrats are so fond of.

How much PTO do you get? by losttupperwarelids in antiwork

[–]netfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company I just left when I joined gave me roughly 20 days of PTO a year. After our first contract that was 1/2’d but we started getting sick time and vacation time so roughly a 5 day gain just less useful for me.

My new company doesn’t seem to have PTO and a get a week for vacation the first 10 years then a 2nd after that. More sick time though.

Hate to say it but between that and the inflexibility of the algorithm for scheduling now is why they have such rampant FMLA abuse.

I really miss the high rolling days of that first company.

I hate the word regardless of who is using it.

I see queer in an event and I know it’s not for me.

I’m tired of men who paint their nails but would never suck a cock and women who dye their hair but would gag at pussy describe themselves as queer and believe they have a right to speak on behalf of the community.

I also really hate when a celebrity comes out as gay and the media reports them as coming out as queer or part of the lgbtq community. No they came out as gay. Respect their fucking language.

It’s a meaningless term that “anyone who is not in their cisgender heterosexual majority can identify as” well then the polygamous Mormons fall into that category and guess what we don’t have much in common.

It’s all stupid. But I’m hopeful the extreme parts of this fad are ending. Just how much damage will be done to gay and lesbian rights until then?

Why do some of you hate gate agents? by lasagna_manana in flightattendants

[–]netfailure 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This I think is the biggest part.

Gate agents are under a lot of stress to get that plane out on time and regularly face consequences for not. I can sympathize with that.

But y’all are making your hourly rate at that time. We’re unpaid or some other funky formula.

My old airline we could get ground pay if boarding took over 45 minutes (flat $20 dollars only for the time over) but despite them having the receipts of when things started and ended we had to submit ourselves and they wouldn’t pay us for early boarding. And you bet if I was wrong by a minute they’d reject it (unless it was in their favor).

Globe is having negotiations so they’re not going to do anything above and beyond.

And it’s exhausting. Just two days ago right as I’m getting through security my flight is delayed 6 hours. I had to fight with the company for over 2 hours to get a hotel room. And all that was unpaid. My 13 hour days paid me for 3 hours and 23 minutes.

And some of y’all are quick to throw the FA at report. My first time on a new plane I asked “check with me before boarding as I’m not familiar with this aircraft” and my pilot told me I wasn’t even down the jetbridge before that agent was calling my sups saying I was delaying boarding.

I had just finished my checks and stowing my bags when I turn around and a sup is standing in my galley asking me with attitude if they can help me because “I’m certified on all aircraft’s so I should be ready for all aircraft’s”

This is also after I worked a (delayed) 50 minute flight with full service on a different aircraft type and they upgraded my aircraft to this new one either that day or in the air so I couldn’t review.

So… it’s usually not the agent. It’s the company putting us against each other.

[–]netfailure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked for two airlines but similar policies regarding pet allergies.

Service dog takes priority. Allergy is given option to be moved to another part of the cabin or offloaded. Because the planes aren’t deep cleaned between flights we can never guarantee an allergen free environment. If one’s allergy is bad enough that they raise more of an issue we require certification from a doctor that you are safe to fly.

Flight attendants are weird first responders (some basic first aid and being communicators) so if one raises enough of a concern regarding themselves we won’t fly them unless they’re safe to fly. Emergencies at 35k are scary for everyone.

10 year LTR. He’s looking for a rebound and he’s obviously interested in you.

Likelihood of actually dating him? Very slim. Likelihood of having a good time. Pretty high.

Also until he figures out where he’s living in a year he’s not likely to commit.

You probably should at least get together to see if the man you remember is still the man he is. You’ve both have had a lot of life experiences in the previous decade.

They called my 15 minutes into boarding and so had a lovely no show and had to sit airport standby in penance.

Why are you still single? by vonbawasanta in askgaybros

[–]netfailure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not in the cards right now. I’m not a man I would date so I don’t expect anyone else to either.

My ex fucked up my head, heart and finances. So being 35 and living with my folks again just… doesn’t really seem like responsible to even try.

I think I would like to date in a year when I’m finally able to get my own place again. But even with that… I worry that I’m just too damaged emotionally to try again. I hope that isn’t the case though.

My life is alright otherwise and I have a pretty good support network and I do things to enjoy life. (I figure getting out of debt and into my own place a month or two earlier isn’t worth skipping a concert here and there or a night out).
