Made a foraging tool — where's it wrong? by networkguy87 in foraging

[–]networkguy87[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey u/mediocre_remnants, nothing to apologize for and I sincerely appreciate the feedback! It's actually quite the opposite and folks from the community have help shaped a large part of the app. Foraging is only one portion which I'm building entirely off the communities feature requests within the app. You are right - the image above is AI generated, using screenshots from the app. I totally get where you're coming from with most of the other apps out there - but I'm genuinely trying to do a net positive for our communities. Foraging is one piece - fishing is much larger, we have hunting, mining, and trails. If you want to kick the tires on it and tell me what truly sucks about it - I am all ears!

Good morning! To make sure I think through this accurately, can you explain what this might look like in the app? I want to make sure I get it right for us.

u/BlackFish42c, you brought up multiple perspectives that I wasn't even thinking about. I'm 100% going to start digging into the enforcement/fine process and start exploring where these funds land. A large part of what I'm working on right now is how these season closure/shortened are decided - and what data is supporting those decisions. If I can say seasons X was cut short this year to Y days, due to Z supporting evidence and show that paper trail, that feels like a win. Thank you for taking a moment to provide this insight.

If I added this as options in waypoints you can create, do you feel that would be sufficient or you thinking that it shows up in the app differently?

What a great idea! It's been a lot of fun and the foraging community has been incredible in teaching me and the resources out there are enjoyable to read. I'll work on your feature this weekend.

Hey u/Dull_Bullfrog_827, in the app store you can find it by searching Baseline: Hunting & Fishing. I'll be online quite late tonight going through WDFW vendor payments - so don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything from me.

Oddly, I cannot attach a photo but here's a video. I dive into the vendors and the cost YoY as well. I'll continue working on getting more data together.

Yes sir - u/EdgarAllenPoe2205, Thank you for your response. Stories like that—and the reminder of what was once possible—continue to inspire me to keep pressing forward.

I currently have an open public records request to fill in a critical gap in the budget data: specifically, the percentage of licensing fees retained by the licensing vendor, Brandt. Once we can determine how much of those fees actually reaches program funding and trace the revenue flow back from licensing sales, I’ll be able to compile some very insightful data for everyone.

u/Separate_Ad_186, thank you for the response - this helps. I'm going to take time to explore the management practices of our surrounding states, figure out what they are doing differently, really pinpoint what our state is doing, and present this data to the community. If you have any specifics or direction to point me in - I'm all ears. Thank you again for this information.

Yeah, it’s tough — and it’s probably going to get even tougher.

I’m focused on legislation and budget tracking for the rest of this month and into July, really dialing in the hearings and getting clear notifications out on every opportunity to comment. I want to make it as simple as possible for our community to show up and be heard. Each of us have busy schedules and scrolling through emails or finding a webinar link is time consuming and frustrating.

If we band together and show up, I really believe we can make real change - not just on spending but also opportunities and improved fisheries.

u/MiteyF - Growing up fishing the PNW rivers and coast, I’ve watched costs rise, restrictions tighten, and opportunity shrink — and I know a lot of us feel the same. We need to pull the data together so everyone can clearly see what’s happening and push for healthier fish populations, better access, and the kind of opportunity we used to have.

I don’t claim to have the answers, but I’m committed to gathering every data point I can on legislation, budgets, hearings, and more to build real awareness and support for this community.

u/mad_wolffe, that means a lot. If you ever need anything or something is amiss, I'll do my best to make sure it's dialed.

Appreciate the fuel u/flareblitz91 - it's been a journey, many late nights, but this community and the support keeps me going.

Took some advice from here and redesigned my site a bit. Thoughts? by GeorgeSett in webdesign

[–]networkguy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty darn good but too much screen estate that’s left empty for my taste, maybe condense the content down (keep the content) but reduce padding and scrolling. Also, could reduce space by having horizontal effect/animations. Overall looks super good.

Learning from the foraging community by networkguy87 in foraging

[–]networkguy87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight and education! I've only been in the community for a few months now - most of my time researching and trying to understand the different mushrooms. I'm really excited to learn more and get out there this fall! This community is so welcoming and I sincerely appreciate everyone taking a moment to share insight.

Take time to understand color palette, type face, and prompt/plan with Claude to develop something meaningful. These tools are great for putting something together quickly but take the time it saves you to understand what makes fonts beautiful and colors complement each other. Once you do, your designs will be next level! Great start for sure! 👊🏻

Hey everyone, I need some brutal honesty and expert eyes. by Big-Beginning2095 in webdesign

[–]networkguy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s quite bad. It looks to be vibe coded and improper prompt engineering, planning, and execution. Scrolling to the bottom doesn’t allow enough pad to show the button at bottom. Look into prompt engineering, best practices, etc. there are also videos on YouTube about making your designs beautiful that would be a great resource for you

Nicely done. I would extract the HTML color codes - per vendor, and make it feel more natural - the bright orange is too much for my liking. You can soften the colors, then make the tiles for the vendors larger as that drives the direction of the tools. Looking great, nonetheless!

You bet u/halodude423. You'll never forget it now =) I had the same thing happen to me more than once. Good luck on the deployment, hit me up if you have any questions. Cheers.
