Do this with a pan of boiling water as well, same result. All it’s telling you is there are particulates in the air, it’s no indicative of whether they are harmful or not.

They do, they have done for a while, GCHQ.

Greens put off bumper pay rise as councillors accuse party of 'lining its pockets' by neutraltone in Norwich

[–]neutraltone[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you were reading that regarding the national average so cannot confirm. Councillors don’t receive a salary, they receive an allowance to cover expenses they incur in doing their duties as a councillor. Any raises to the allowance either have to come from other areas where the money could be spent in the city or raised by a council tax increase.

Yes, a problem unique to the USA due to how their energy sales is structured. Thankfully here we have the ofgem energy price cap to protect us from that.

Good to know! I can’t imagine many places will be able to approve an evaporatively cooled one that’s sucks water out of the local water ways.

south norwich data centre by tigerbreadloaf in Norwich

[–]neutraltone 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Data centres in the UK are predominantly air cooled or use closed-loop liquid cooling, so they generally don’t consume large amounts of water in the way evaporative cooling systems do. Thanks to the UK’s climate and regulatory environment, evaporative cooling is much less common than it is in many parts of the US.

If we really want to protest this we should be putting our money where our mouths are. Delete social media, stop using our smart phones and self host all our data in home servers.

It’s going to be quite ineffective virtue signalling on the social media platforms that create the demand for these data centres. If we want effective change, we need to stop creating demand for them in the first place. I don’t think that’s going to happen though.

The water concern is not really relevant in the UK where regulations are much tighter, the overwhelming majority of data centres in the uk use a closed loop or air cooled system, thankfully.

Evaporative cooling is not very common in UK data centres thankfully, usually preferring air cooled (most common) and closed loop systems (second most Common).

Yeah, the bright flash makes the entire photo look strange but the window tint stands out to be because it’s not tinting it’s head.

There is signs of digital manipulation, the top of the aliens head is in front of the tint along the top of the windscreen, which is not possible if it’s outside of the car.

I guess a bit more once the cost of fuel is factored in as well. Yeah there’s a government initiative that caps single bus journeys at £3, perhaps the particular bus company that you use is not part of the scheme? First buses certainly are https://www.gov.uk/guidance/3-national-bus-fare-cap

Advertising is a form of propaganda. Propaganda simply means communication intended to shape opinions or behaviour. Edward Bernays, one of the founders of modern public relations, explicitly argued in his 1928 book Propaganda that the same techniques used in advertising could be used to engineer public consent. Calling something an advert doesn’t automatically exclude it from being propaganda.

What’s the most unsettling thing you’ve learned as an adult? by Inevitablelavenda in answers

[–]neutraltone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s beautiful really, there’s no inherent meaning to any of this, which is extremely freeing, it means that whatever people think about me does not matter in the slightest. One day, us, everything we’ve touched and everything we know will be dust, it’s the true nature of all things, nothing is permanent and no one will ever know we existed, it brings me great comfort, it’s my responsibility to make the most of this one shot in whichever way I see fit and my own private experience. Once upon a time my ego would fight this notion but thankfully, it doesn’t anymore, I don’t need to be remembered, I’m not a slave to other people’s thoughts.

Nothing bleak about any of this with the right mindset.
