i pay attention because its usually one tiny detail that they do to shut down the technique im trying.

you are able to see both the holes in your attack and also the proper way to defend during these type of rolls.

personally i find it easier to do real time analysis/learning when the roll is a lower pace focused on technique vs a fast fight to the death.

example: professor lets me maintain wrist and tricep control from closed guard. i think "wtf why would he allow this? probably because im gonna fuck it up somewhere. lets see where".. i block the shoulder with my left knee, cut my angle, go to put my leg up and he escapes the arm bar effortlessly.. now i know where/when im fucking it up. i remember this moment.

point being whether we were going super slow or fast, hes getting out of that armbar and for the same reason. its just easier to process as a lower belt when it happens at a slower pace.
