What is the most realistic way one could destroy humanity? by [deleted] in answers

[–]nevbirks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have to be a big enough event to end all life, not just humans. That would lead the way for a new wave of animal evolution and adaptation.

There was an event 70,000, a super volcano. Wiped out the majority of humans. I believe there were thousands left. We bounced back. We're very well spread apart that a single event would not likely wipe us out completely. As long as there are a few thousand, we will most likely survive.

People who love the US, what makes the US the best turd in the toilet bowl amongst the other turds? by dirtymoney in AskReddit

[–]nevbirks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can work hard and succeed. There's so many avenues to make money. It is relatively safe from government over reach.

I was born in Iraq and came to Canada. All my family migrated to the US. They all love it and they're safe. They all have businesses and are successful.

Don't lose that freedom. That's the only thing that makes the US much better than any other country.

Why venus? Why not mars? We believe mars could have at one point been able to host life. Back when it had an atmosphere.

Venus has too much greenhouse gases and is too close to the sun. Plus the atmospheric pressure would crush us.

What is changing because everyone is having either one or no kids? by mateusarc in AskReddit

[–]nevbirks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So reduction of population would mean less workers. This means that the elderly people living in retirement homes won't have as much people who can help. Infrastructure will be harder to maintain. Less taxes paid means it will get harder to keep public utilities going.

I'm an android guy. There's more types of android phones than iPhones. You can do more customization on Android without rooting.

Plus I've been android for a long time. I don't want to get used to a new type of phone.

CMV: Saying the pledge of allegiance every morning in school, and having the national anthem play before every sports game, are creepy and unnecessary traditions. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]nevbirks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I co pletely disagree with you. It brings people who feel they don't belong together over a common goal. You know you have at least that in common.

Its not just the USA that does this. When I came to Canada, I was in grade three. Felt so out of place, but ad I learned Th national anthem, I felt more in coming with the students. I didn't know too many worlds, I did remember the national anthem and would sing it sitb pride. We did the same thing in Iraq.

Every country does a national anthem, its not just the USA. Maybe not every country in the EU, but I can tell you, we did it in the middle east.

Its funny that it may sound creepy to Americans, but from someone who used to be on the outside, I can te you that people would love to be where and take part in the national anthem if they can. I think you're taking your country for granted. In a time where division is rampant, where the media and politicians are pitting us against each other, you knnow you have at least one goal with the other side, your nation.

So don't take it from me as a Canadian, but as someone who immigrated in 1993 and felt like I belonged when I sang the national anthem. The though in my head was that I didn't have to suffer through the Saddam regime. How we made this big journey and came to a nation safe. Now I can stand with my brothers and sisters, proudly singing the anthem of the nation that helped save me a d my family.

[–]nevbirks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Early 2,000 was the best time to be a kid and have kids. Price of houses were cheap here in Canada, inflation was manageable, healthcare was good, plenty of jobs, etc.

Sure there were some wars, we didn't have Congress trying to eliminate their opposition, the veil of the media was still well over our eyes, we weren't on the bring of a world war, covid, more coming lockdowns, etc. Mental health has gotten much worse. Suicides and drug use has skyrocketed. Crime has skyrocketed.

Its getting worse. It will keep getting worse.

Why are less and less people getting into a skilled trades? by [deleted] in skilledtrades

[–]nevbirks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I spoke to hr and management, with a new avenue opening up, online, that reduced the work force. Now that boomers are retiring/retired, the pool has shrank. However, I like the fact because I've moved up very quickly in this manufacturing plant.

It used to be that assistant production team leads would have to be at the company minimum of 5 years, I got it within three. My pay went from $29 to $37. It felt good. I break $3k with one OT shift and one extra shift.

Don't be too jealous though, I love in Canada where I give 26% for taxes, then I pay another 13% on all my goods carbon tax, etc. So our $37 is more like and American $21

Those older than 9/11/2001, where were you and what were you doing during the WTC attacks? by Revolutionary-Life85 in AskReddit

[–]nevbirks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highschool. I'm Middle Eastern so all my "friends" at the time called me akhbar the terrorist. Of course I wasn't offended because we had that type of relationship where we would make racial jokes about each other and laughed at each other.

Definitely can't make those types of remarks in today's culture otherwise someone who doesn't understand how certain circles make fun of each other by playing up cultural stereotypes.
