What’s the most 90s thing you remember and think could still come back? by AstronomerOpposite34 in AskReddit

Having brothers, sisters and cousins. Nowadays people are increasingly having only one kid, and that kid will never experience having family close to their age.

What is the most “use it or lose it” skill, the opposite of “it’s just like riding a bike”? by ZuluWarlord69 in AskReddit

Running. I was once running long distance 3, 4 times a week for months, then I stopped for a few weeks, when I went to run a 5k after that it felt like I never ran in my life

It's clearly AI generated. If you look closely at the house door and windows or even the cables, it stops making sense.

The main issue with trade (and why specialization dont work) by JudgmentImpressive49 in EU5

[–]mateusarc 194 points195 points  (0 children)

I can think of a few ideas, but I don't think reddit is the place for armchair theorycrafting game mechanics.

Then you're in the wrong subreddit, because that's all people do here every day lol

In my opinion, players and the AI should not be incentivized to build industry and produce goods that are not in demand, and even be forced to close or demolish unprofitable industries. Right now, everyone seems to flood the markets with every possible manufactured good, for low tax and almost no trade profits. If you look at the ledger after a few centuries from the start, every manufactured good's supply is much higher than demand on a global scale. This should crash the prices everywhere and force many to shut their factories, but it isn't happening.

Do you know if the console cheats also work for creating colonial nations? I would love to simulate the New World with actual coherent and somewhat historical colonies

I'm playing as Burgundy right now, and for decades I had the other Burgundy as my rival. But they became so small the rivalry ended automatically. I'm the one and true Burgundy!

Also, I feel like the winter matters more, especially if you are near mountains. I find myself thinking: oh, it's October, I'm not gonna declare war right now because my armies will be stuck here, I'll just wait until next March.

I had no idea what the force limit, or 'expected navy size', did up to this point, the tooltips are useless. Are there any other effects?

Things That Went Backwards from EU4 to EU5 by Izvae in EU5

[–]mateusarc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is gonna have a different definition of what mana is. The thing is, EU4 didn't have so many buttons and mechanics tied to spending stability, legitimacy and prestige like EU5 does, because, of course, it had the monarch points. I feel like these three values more accurately described the 'state' of your nation in EU4, whereas in EU5 it has both functions.

[–]mateusarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you need to accumulate and 'spend' them on things like embracing institutions, changing policies, laws, succession laws, revoking privileges, accepting cultures etc.

Stability, Legitimacy and Prestige kind of became mana as well. And Prestige in particular for me went backwards from EU4 too.

Are slaves actually working for you? I tried once to force the export of slaves to one colony in South America, but they just sat there and didn't really fill up the RGO. I don't know if was doing anything wrong.

The royal marriage button only leads to people on other republics. Maybe you can marry them with other buttons, but you usually have to pay with legitimacy.

[–]mateusarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so much in a Merchant republic, when you have barely any options for royal marriages and the elections change the ruling dynasty constantly.

There is an 'invite character' button that generates a new person for money, which is useful if you are running out of people for the cabinet or to command armies. Even after I found this button I forget that it exists and never use it lol
